1950 Buick Super

The new Buick for 1950 had many body styles to choose from and there was something for everybody, coupes, convertibles, sedans, both standard and long wheel base. Buick used the trusted 248ci Fireball "valve in head" strait 8-cylinder engine and offered an optional "Dynaflow" automatic transmission.On Sept. 21, 1949, Buick manufactured its 1 millionth post-war model, which was a 1950 Special Deluxe sedan. A Mr. Chayne, who was chief engineer for the Buick Motor Division said, In announcing the new Buicks for 1950, we feel that we have achieved a new high standard in those elements of automobile design which make for owner satisfaction. The company had coined the advertising slogan, Buicks the Fashion for 1950, for its campaigns that year. The Buick models were very different from anything else in General Motors new car line up for 1950. For many years, Buicks signature design style was the vent ports. They were functional as well as decorative serving to ventilate the engine compartment.
This 1950 Super Riviera Sedan Model 52 was built at the South Gate, CA assembly plant and was originally green with grey interior. The car was restored at some point and had a complete color change to black with a grey and black two-tone themed interior. The car retains its correct Fireball strait 8-cylinder engine which runs very well and also has the optional Dynaflow automatic transmission. The Buick shows very well with no signs of rust to the body and no major dents present. The paint finish is glossy and rich but does have a few scratches and chips here and there. The interior is very nice black vinyl/ grey velour cloth with grey carpets, and is in excellent condition without too much visible wear. All chrome is very nice as is the glass and exterior emblems, and lights. The tires have plenty of tread remaining and do not show signs of age cracking or flat spots. The 6-volt electrical system is in good working order and the battery is fairly new. This car has the optional heater/defroster which function and the am radio which turns on though there are not too many am channels these days, all the gauges function with the exception of the clock. The engine fires up easily, has good power, and sounds great with the dual exhaust fitted. The automatic transmission moves the car along smoothly and all gears function as designed. The horn, lights, and vacuum powered wipers also are in good working order. The center emblem of the steering wheel is showing age related cracking. The car comes with a factory shop manual and a fitted car cover.
