Classic Car Overview

What makes this the perfect hobby car? (Watch the Video!)

This is a rust free specimen of the classic Brooke Stevens Willys Jeepster phaeton design. This is an estate car out of California; on the lift, you can still see the original spot welds on the rocker panels. This is a very clean and complete 75 year old survivor car.

This is also an example of one of the earliest resto-mod projects; the original four-cylinder flathead and three speed manual drivetrains were prone to premature failure when driven at highways speed. A 1958, 235 Chevrolet six cylinder passenger car motor and three speed Saginaw manual transmission were chosen to upgrade this drivetrain; most likely in the early 60s. A clean original car, that has already been modified, makes an excellent project vehicle. Unmolested original vehicles should be always be restored, never modified! Starting with a modified vehicle, gives this project unlimited future resto-mod potential.

This car is also a perfect driver as-is. I have owned this vehicle for six years and I've had the opportunity to properly sort out this car. I first learned about mechanics working on this very same engine. This one now has a rebuilt carburetor, rebuilt starter, a new electric fuel pump, a rebuilt distributor with a new, vacuum advance, and electronic ignition module. I also upgraded the three speed Saginaw transmission with a five speed overdrive Borg Warner T5 transmission out of a Chevy S-10. This upgrade really improved the drivability; cruising all day at 70+ MPH is now a reality. Stopping power to match has been achieved with the front disc brake conversion. So many roads, so little time with this classic phaeton!

Other upgrades include; a new aluminum radiator with electric fan, a new auxiliary heater, 12 V alternator conversion, new battery, 4 brand new Coker Wide White Radials (P235/75R15) and; 1 good spare, rebuilt steering with new steering wheel, new convertible canvas top, and a new battery. The battery, top, and disc brakes are less than a year old.

My plan was to build a modern up-to-date frame and 4x4 drivetrain off-line, while I continue use the Jeepster, as-is, for a really fun &; dependable classic driver! The body swap could be performed when the new frame is ready with minimum downtime. I have already begun to accumulate components for this project and offer those parts for sale as well. I took frame measurements from the original while the car was on the lift and had Throttle Down Kustoms mandrel bend a pair of 2 x 4 frame rails to match. I also have a Cummins R2.8 diesel powerplant still in the crate. Currently, this is a popular aftermarket engine choice for Jeeps and small utility vehicles. Replacing the Chevy six with a four-cylinder should be an easy swap and fit well within the engine compartment. The firewall has already been modified which gives you even more flexibility with radiator/aftercooler sizing, as well as engine placement. This can be a very sweet piece if done right!

The asking price for the Jeepster alone is $25,000; $9,500 for the frame & motor alone; $32,500 package price for the Jeepster, new frame, and Cummins R2.8.

My concept was use the Jeepster to build the perfect vintage camping trailer tow vehicle with four-wheel-drive. Set up the campsite with your vintage trailer, disconnect, and go off cruising, top down, in a four-wheel-drive Jeepster. The frame and Cummins R2.8 would also work very well in a Willys Wagon project.

The vehicle and parts are currently stored at the Max-Bilt facility in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. The vehicle is ready to be picked up, and driven home anywhere in the lower 48, or Canada. I am also prepared to personally deliver this vehicle, (frame and crate motor too!) anywhere in the lower 48 states for return transportation fare home. Max-Bilt is also a top-tier vintage Jeep restoration shop that can also complete this project if a turnkey car is what you want. All this is described in my YouTube video. With this vehicle, be prepared to be the center of attention, no matter where you stop! I have gotten more smiles and fun per mile in this car, than any other vehicle I have ever owned in 60 years of driving! Jeepsters are magic!

Please text to set a time for a telephone call, if you wish to discuss.

P.S. If the Ad is still up, the car is still available. I prefer not to text back and forth. The ad is very complete; schedule telephone interview if you are seriously interested. Thank You!
