From around 1956 until the mid 1980s, Dodge, Plymouth and even Chrysler squads were the most ubiquitous police cars in North America. In fact, the biggest department, the NYPD, used Plymouth and Dodge squads almost exclusively until the rear-drive M body car was finally axed in 1989.
The no-frills Savoy two-door sedan was home to another engine of considerable repute, the infamous 413 Max Wedge, a Super Stock monster block Chrysler introduced in the spring of 1962.

PRICE REDUCTION!! 1949 Mercury Eight, 4-door sedan. Rear suicide doors. 350ci Chevy with automatic transmission. Pre-1986 Chevy block in very good condition. Ford 9 rear end. Air bag suspension over leaf (installed by Ponch Silva aka The Bagman), Bilstein shocks, lake pipes, engine bay smoothed including fender wells and firewall, custom fabricated cover for aluminum radiator. All exterior and interior metal re-chromed and stainless pieces polished. All new window glass. Interior door reveals and dash painted candy apple red. Lots of extra, original parts not yet installed, i.e. full set of original, polished door handles and window cranks, polished stainless-steel door sills, chromed front window reveal, chrome screws for all window reveals, restored 1954 Mercury hub caps with red center and Mercury head (purchased from company in Chino, CA). Current paint job is approximately 2 years old. Original replacement trim and other parts purchased from Mercuryland, the late Bill Papke, Dennis-Carpenter.com and/or MACs Auto Parts. I get lots of compliments every time I take her out for a drive or bring her to local car shows.
I have invested approximately $45k. I do not drive it near as often as it should be. I want her to go a lead sled, classic car buff that will enjoy it as much as I have. Asking price is $21,000 or obo (was recently listed at $22,500).
