Built during the premier year of Fords celebrated postwar redesign, this 1949 Ford Custom Convertible captures the distinct spirit of late-forties American cruising while incorporating several thoughtful period-style enhancements. Powering this beauty is a Flathead V8 breathing through an Offenhauser intake and heads, fed by a Holley carburetor, and breathing out through dual exhaust. Everyday usability gets a boost thanks to a 12-volt electrical conversion and a power-operated soft top. Custom touches include Dodge-style cross-bar hubcaps, removable rear fender skirts, and a finished trunk space housing a relocated battery.
BODY OVERVIEW:
The slab-sided design that defined Fords 1949 lineup presents straight lines and well-aligned panel gaps across the hood, doors, and rear decklid. The power convertible top fits snugly along the windshield frame. Heavy chrome trim and brightwork, including the signature central bullet grille, are in place and show beautifully. Removable rear fender skirts fit flush against the body sides, offering the choice between a sleeker, lower profile or an open-wheel appearance when removed.
PAINT CONDITION OVERVIEW:
The finish displays a consistent shine across the broad sheet metal panels, highlighting the classic curves of the body. This aint no Earl Scheib paint job! Close inspection reveals minimal signs of careful road use and age, consistent with a vehicle that has been enjoyed rather than kept behind glass since it was restored. Buyers should note that the lower trunk edges show light wear, though the overall presentation remains outstanding! The tan cloth convertible top is in good condition, and is the perfect pairing for the maroon paint.
