Windy City Warriors

From around 1956 until the mid 1980s, Dodge, Plymouth and even Chrysler squads were the most ubiquitous police cars in North America. In fact, the biggest department, the NYPD, used Plymouth and Dodge squads almost exclusively until the rear-drive M body car was finally axed in 1989.

Savoy Faire is Everywhere

The no-frills Savoy two-door sedan was home to another engine of considerable repute, the infamous 413 Max Wedge, a Super Stock monster block Chrysler introduced in the spring of 1962.

Classic Car Overview

GR Auto Gallery is pleased to offer this ultra-clean 1949 Ford Custom Convertible for your consideration. The Custom was a new model offered from Ford beginning in 1949. It was powered by either an inline 6cyl or a V8. The example here is powered by the optional 239ci Flathead V8. The engine on this example has had Edelbrock valve covers installed. Mated to the Flathead V8 is a smooth shifting 3-on-the-tree manual transmission.

We see a lot of cars come through our doors and not many are as clean as this one. Finished in a gorgeous Miami Cream color, the paint shows minimal imperfections. All exterior chrome trim and bumpers are in spectacular condition as are the wheels. The tan soft top is power operated and complements the Miami Cream paint nicely.

The interior is just as clean as the exterior if not better. Multiple colors of brown leather are featured on the interior. The cream and brown of this car complement each other nicely making for a very classic and stylish look. No rips or tears can be found and all interior paint is in spectacular condition.

For the 1949 model year, the Custom nameplate was used for the top trim level in Fords range automobile. It was part of the completely new redesign of Ford cars after the war. It was the first all-new automobile design introduced by the Big Three after World War II, civilian production having been suspended during the war, and the 1946-1948 models from Ford, GM, and Chrysler being updates of their pre-war models. Popularly called the "Shoebox Ford" for its slab-sided, "ponton" design, the 1949 Ford is credited both with saving Ford and ushering in modern streamlined car design with changes such as integrated fenders and more.
