1949 Cadillac Model 61 Sedanett The series 61 was Cadillacs mainstream product line throughout the 40s. It was first introduced in 1939 and despite being dropped in 1940 it returned 1 year later in 1941. Like most manufacturers production ceased during WWII but once production returned the Series 61 came back and was a popular line all the way until 1951. Cadillac is a name synonymous with luxury and the 61 was able to incorporate the Cadillac luxuries while still being at a competitive price point. The size, equipment, and quality all worked together to get a specific target audience of people that wanted a personal luxury car to drive themselves. In the case of the 61 the owners were often the drivers while the larger longer series was usually chauffer driven. This 1949 is a great looking car and has some great bodylines. This was still the era of lots of chrome and wide swooping fins. The car really has a neat look and being a Sedanett has the long sloping roofline and awesome looking side profile. The car was fully restored 1,000 miles ago and is set up to be a nice comfortable driver. The Garnet Red paint has a beautiful finish with a nice shine. All of the original style chrome and stainless is in great condition throughout. Features like the GM sun visor and rear skirts are great vintage touches the suit the car well. The original style lights all work properly and under the drivers taillight is where the gas cap is hidden. The original spoke wheels look perfect on the car and are wrapped in wide white wall tires. As mentioned previously the car has a classic look but was built up to be a smooth regular driver. Powering it down the road is a blue printed 355 ci 385hp V8 that runs great. Everything is very clean and show ready under the hood. The firewall, radiator support and inner fenders are all painted to match the exterior. Certain components on the motor are also painted to match for a clean cohesive look. It also has plenty of chrome and custom accents so it is very worth of showing off. Cooling is no problem thanks to the aluminum radiator with 12 volt pulling fan and pushing fan. Paired with the motor is a smooth shifting 700R4 automatic transmission that sends power back to the Ford 9 in rear. The rear end has 355 gears and was built by the Powell Brothers out of Baytown, Texas. Underneath the car has a Fat Man sub front frame and it has also been upgraded with 4 wheel power disc brakes, power steering and 2 inch drop spindles. The master cylinder has a 1 1/8 inch bore and is a GM unit. During the build the car was completely rewired with a Ron Francis wiring kit and panel. Other nice features include the tanks fuel tank mounted under the rear. Before we dive into the beautiful leather interior it should be noted that prior to completion Dynamat Xtreme was layered all throughout the interior and trunk.
