Classic Car Overview

1948 Mercury Eight 89M Convertible
New Power Top, Leather Interior

Nice 1948 Mercury V8 89M Convertible for sale. This handsome convertible was restored in the early 2000s by a previous owner and had many recent upgrades such as a beautiful new leather interior and cloth power top. It is finished in an attractive medium red metallic with tan interior and top. It includes boxes of parts, awards, Mercury clothing and accessories, and a great deal of documentation.

The Flathead, an eight-cylinder engine, fires right up and runs strong and smooth; it has brand new vintage style spark plug wires, a 6-volt battery with a cut-off switch, a newer voltage regulator, a nice single barrel carburetor, electronic fuel pump with a regulator, and good belts and hoses.

It rides on steel wheels with caps and rings and a set of whitewall radial P215/75R 15 tires. The braking and suspension perform well, making this a wonderful driving car.

The interior was recently restored, including beautiful leather seating, door, and kick-panels. It has a matching removable center armrest with two cup holders, newer carpeting, and a nice set of old-school Coco mats. It sports all of its original gauges; fuel, oil, battery, and temperature. The stock water and oil pressure gauges have been bypassed for more accurate aftermarket gauges located on the lower left near the emergency brake.

It has working lights, blinkers, heater, and choke and is equipped with an electronic fuel pump that can be switched on/off manually. The power top works beautifully and is activated by the switch conveniently mounted underneath the dash. Currently, the clock, horn, and radio are not working. This is a delightfully comfortable car for even the longest drives!

The exterior was refinished by its previous owner in a medium red metallic that looks nice. This was done in the early 2000s and has held up well, though, due to age, expect some minor nicks and scratches that have been touched up, and extra paint is included. Overall it is an attractive car with nice chrome, glass, and trim. The new convertible top sets it off nicely.

It has a spot lamp, fog lamps, and a restored set of vintage YOM California license plates. It's a great-looking old Merc that you can be proud to show up in anywhere.
