Classic Car Overview
To Be OFFERED AT AUCTION WITHOUT RESERVE at RM Sothebys The Hershey Auction event, 7 - 8 October 2026.
Offered Without Reserve $10,000 - $15,000 USD
Although the fundamental design traced its roots to Buicks final pre-war models, the Super emerged from World War II looking fresh and thoroughly modern. Under the direction of General Motors Design Chief Harley Earl, Buick incorporated subtle but effective styling refinements, including the marques signature Sweepspear front fenders, a bold vertical-bar grille, and carefully applied brightwork that gave the cars an unmistakable presence while preserving their polished character.
The Series 50 Super occupied an appealing middle ground within Buicks lineup, combining the generous dimensions and upscale appearance of the senior Roadmaster with the proven 248-cubic-inch Fireball straight-eight. Equipped with a higher compression ratio than earlier versions, the smooth-running engine delivered improved performance while maintaining the quiet, effortless character for which it was renowned. Revised trim, a lower visual stance, and tasteful interior updates further enhanced the models appeal for 1948. Among the most striking body styles was the fastback Sedanet, whose sweeping roofline and flowing rear quarters perfectly captured Americas fascination with streamlined design and modern styling.
Finished in an attractive two-tone combination of Aztec Green over Allandale Green, this Super Sedanet beautifully showcases Buicks flowing post-war aesthetic. A period metal exterior sun visor, chrome wheel covers, and wide whitewall tires further enhance the authentic appearance. Inside, the cabin features Buicks distinctive Streamline Moderne dashboard with silver-faced instrumentation set within a handsome two-tone fascia. The interior has been tastefully refreshed in period-style felt upholstery and is equipped with desirable amenities, including a push-button radio, integrated clock, and dual sun visors.
Combining graceful fastback styling, dependable straight-eight power, and tasteful period appointments, this 1948 Buick Super Sedanet is a handsome and enjoyable example of one of Buicks most memorable post-war automobiles, equally suited for relaxed touring, local shows, and weekend cruise nights.
