Classic Car Overview

All vehicle trades considered including classics and performance. We can assist with financing and shipping as needed.

This 1947 Lincoln Continental coupe shows just how prestigious a top-of-the-line automobile used to be. Its massive presence and swanky styling really set things apart and could not be missed. Think how awesome it must have been to parade around in this vehicle nearly eighty years ago! Even today this big V12 Continental will make an impression wherever it goes.

1947 was the penultimate year for the first-generation Continental which spanned WWII. It was a very exclusive car with only 831 coupes produced that year. This example has been with the same owner for the last 53 years which really says something. It wears an older repaint in its original color of Pace Car Yellow. Along with the factory art deco trim pieces and rubber stone guards, there is no missing that opulent front grille (which does exhibit some pitting). Another unique Continental design feature is the use of pushbutton door operators in place of a conventional handles. The tires are brand new 235/75R15 wide whitewall radials.

This model is further distinguished as the final American V12 offering. In this case it was a derivative of Fords Flathead platform and displaced a relatively modest 292 cubic inches. It is surprising how easily this engine starts and idles from cold. It makes lovely mechanical sounds and runs smoothly with a single 2-barrel carburetor. Note the oil pan gasket and drive belt were recently replaced. The three-speed column shifter transmission shifts smoothly without any surprises and overdrive is also present. The brakes have received a full service including a new master cylinder, wheel cylinders, lines, hoses, shoes, and hardware.

Looking inside reveals a green leather interior that appears mostly original. The dashboard makes it clear this is not just ordinary transportation. Rather, the gauges, center control panel, glove box lid, and steering wheel all present plenty of bling. The unique hydraulic power windows work properly. The headlights, dash lights, turn signals, gauges, and horns are also functional, while the radio, clock, heater, and vacuum wipers are not. You have probably heard of a Continental Kit for storing a spare tire; this is indeed the model that gave birth to that moniker. It makes for plenty of storage space in the very deep trunk compartment which includes the original jack and lug wrench.

This Lincoln is not your average classic car. It is a statement to another era and a testimonial of how things used to be. And while this collectible obviously presents a stately image, it is much more than just a stationary exhibit. This one is ready to hit the road and remind everyone what a first-generation Continental was all about.
