From around 1956 until the mid 1980s, Dodge, Plymouth and even Chrysler squads were the most ubiquitous police cars in North America. In fact, the biggest department, the NYPD, used Plymouth and Dodge squads almost exclusively until the rear-drive M body car was finally axed in 1989.
The no-frills Savoy two-door sedan was home to another engine of considerable repute, the infamous 413 Max Wedge, a Super Stock monster block Chrysler introduced in the spring of 1962.
Classic Car Overview
HIGHLIGHTS: Nice, affordable post-war Ford! High-quality weekend driver! This older restoration has held up well, and still looks fantastic. BODY OVERVIEW: This Super Deluxe is a looker now and car appears to have been restored in the past, and when it was freshly done she mustve been top notch! While theres some minor signs of age and use showing, the body is very straight and striking. PAINT CONDITION OVERVIEW: Much like the body, the paint is showing some age, but just ever so slightly. The deep burgundy color has excellent gloss, and shows very well. There is one minor scrape on the passenger side rear wheel well, but other than that imperfections are minimal. INTERIOR CONDITION OVERVIEW: The interior looks to be the same age as the rest of the restoration this vehicle has received, and has held up impressively over time. It was certainly put together by someone who knew what they were doing! The gray cloth is the perfect match to the burgundy exterior, while the tinted windows are a tasteful modification that make the interior of this Ford just that much more comfortable. MECHANICAL OVERVIEW: Under the hood, this car has been kept true to original form! The Flathead V8 is a great choice for any classic 40s Ford. While it is nothing fancy, it does run smoothly and retains its original look. This car isnt necessarily fast, but it runs with a nice, humble exhaust note and is sure to make an excellent weekend cruiser. WHAT YOULL LOVE ABOUT THIS CAR: The unique look, and overall condition! WHAT YOU MIGHT HATE ABOUT THIS CAR: The lack of A/C, and the fact that it has a 3-speed column shifter may turn some off. We think thats part of the appeal! DOES IT NEED ANYTHING? It does need a few odds and ends, as items such as the heater, oil pressure gauge, fuel gauge, and horn are not currently operational. Additionally, an original AM radio is included with the sale but not installed. WHAT BUYER IS LOOKING FOR THIS CAR? This car appeals to a wide demographic of enthusiasts. Whether youre looking for a base to start a high-dollar restoration, or an affordable classic to tool around town in during the summer, this Super Deluxe would be a great candidate!
