Classic Car Overview
1946 Chev "Shorty" schoolbus with a 5 window Wayne bus body. Wayne bus bodies in this era had the distinctive black stripe that ran along the sides and dipped around the back end, as well as the unique 3 rib skid strips along each side. Nice straight body, nearly rust free and only one broken window. About 20 years ago someone attempted to retrofit mid seventies Chev truck running gear under this old classic. It has a one ton 14 bolt dually rear end and a 3/4 ton front crossmember with disc brakes and power steering as well as a Chev 350 engine and turbo 350 trans poorly mocked up. These modifications will need re-doing as the workmanship is terrible.
These shorty buses are extremely rare, especially in this Classic 1941-46 Chev truck Art Deco style. It has a clear title and all of the folding door rubber flaps and door closer linkage that aren't visible in the pictures are inside the bus along with several period correct bus front seats. This bus was originally owned by a private contractor who hauled rural school children under contract to an Iowa school district.
