1941 Willys Americar
Following in the tradition of previous Ford factory built Mustang race cars like the 1968 Cobra Jet, the Boss 429 and the FR500S Mustang Challenge car, Ford Racing and AAI started work on a production run of 50 Cobra Jet Mustangs in January 2010. Ford Racing built 50 Cobra Jet Mustangs at Ford vendor facilities.
One thing that the crew at Volo Auto Museum understands is that context is everything. They have gone the extra mile to display each movie car with memorabilia and signage that brings the scene to life. The museum features actual movie props such as Tom Cruise's racing seat from Days Of Thunder.
Classic Car Overview
The body is fiberglass manufactured by Innovated Street Machines. Body has a tilt front end. all seams, hood, fenders front and rear are molded to the body for a one piece look.
The door handles are shaved. Electric door kickers. The license plate is recessed into the rear tail section below the trunk lid. The 4" oval exhaust tips are cut through the rocker panels before each rear fender. The hood has a hole cut through for the carburetors to protrude. The blower has a hilborn style scoop or can be ran with the two exposed air cleaners. Equipped with the hood is a bolt on pro stock fiberglass scoop that can be mounted with ease or mounting holes plugged with color matching round head bolts.
The paint is a base coat clear coat raspberry metallic with dark purple flames.
Frame is 2X4 constructed painted satin black. totally heavy duty.
Motor is a 540 Big Block topped off with a 871 Blower Drive Systems (BDS) supercharger. 4" exhaust with electric cut outs to straight pipes.
The blower is dressed with a Nitrous Works Nitrous Oxide blower system. (for show only. never used). Motor built by Big Al's toy box. All the best of everything... I would change the carbs to 950's and you'd be over 850Hp. Racing fuel and the bottle and you'd be well over 1,200 est. Not even broken in yet with 120 miles.
Transmission is a TCI Ultimatic Street Fighter TH 400 with a 3400 stall converter and TCI shifter.
Mustang 2 front. Ford 9" rear 370 gears. 31 spline posi. Currie axles. 4 link rear suspension. 4 wheel disk. 4 coil over adjustable shocks at all 4 corners.
Chrome master cylinder. stainless lines. adjustable proportioning valve. roll control.
Aluminum radiator. dual electric fans. MSD ignition. aluminum fuel tank. stainless braided lines. electric Holly fuel pump.
Ididit tilt chrome column. custom flamed steering wheel.
S&W Race Cars drive shaft. and 8 point roll cage with aircraft quality connectors so side bars come out.
Weld racing drag lite wheels. 15X12 back 15X5 front. BFG drag radials.
Kwik wire 18 circuit street rod wiring kit. trunk mount battery with kill switch.
Auto meter instruments. Moon Tach with shift light. Auto Loc wipers. power windows and shaved door handle kit with emergency release cable.
Black interior with Jegs padded racing seats. 5 point Simpson safety harness.
This is the big dog, period. It looks great, sounds great and has the right stance. Very very fast....
