Classic Car Overview

The Packard Super-8 One-Sixty was introduced in 1940 to replace the first-generation Super-8 and would only be produced for three model years. Automobile output was restricted to 73.5 percent of its output in 1940 due to the ramp up of war production requirements of WWII. Buyers who could afford a new vehicle were left with a modest selection of luxury cars on the market before production halted altogether in February 1942. Packard would go on to produce over 55,000 combat engines, including V-1650-7 Merlin engines for P-51 Mustang fighters and V-12 marine engines for PT boats.

The One-Sixty was a true luxury car of its day with plenty of power from its 356ci, strait 8-cylinder engine producing 160 horsepower. The One-Sixty was offered in sedan, convertible, limousine, or town car variants. These Packards remain a desirable American classic, known for their power, classic styling, and comfortable driving characteristics. The 1941 Packards were the first to move the headlights into the fenders, giving the cars a striking, modern look that was suddenly the height of fashion. The cars were large and impressive, staying true to the Packard legacy.

This 1941 Packard One-Sixty Convertible Coupe s/n 14792037 was finished December 5th, 1940 and delivered new by Berry Motor Car Company in St Louis, Missouri. The car is finished in the striking color combo of Gloss Black over a Red leather interior with Beige soft top. The current collector owner acquired the Packard in 2015 out of Illinois. Not much is known of the prior history of the car aside from it had a total restoration at some point which still shows nicely today. The previous ownership dates back to 1991 when the car was owned by Ralph and Bettie Cramer of Illinois, and then passed to Warren Shultz of Burlington, Iowa. The car presents today as a very nice condition 3 driver/show car. The car recently competed on the 2025 Pebble Beach Motoring Classic Tour from WA to CA. The car was awarded a participation blue ribbon. In 2015 much work was done to the car including: new front springs, rebuilding the starter, repairing shift linkage, repairing brake/clutch pedal bearings, replacing brake master cylinder, new Michelin radial whitewall tires, rebuilding all 4 shocks, adding an electric assist fuel pump, new fuel line, and new flywheel ring gear. This Packard has a power soft top, overdrive, radio, fog lamps, heater, and dual side mirrors. Turn signals, battery shut-off switch, and seat belts have been added for modern safety. The motor was hot rodded at some point with twin Stromberg Aerotype carburetors, Edmunds finned aluminum head-exhaust manifold-and-air cleaners. The motor pulls very nicely, the overdrive functions, wipers, horn, heater, lamps, and signals all work. The clock and radio do not work currently. The car retains its original 6-volt positive ground electrical system. The paintwork is nice overall with a deep glossy finish and some age related defects and small stone chips here and there. Brightwork is all very nice and still in show acceptable quality. Glass is clear and free of cracks or delamination. The red leather interior has a beautiful luster, supple to the touch, and is in great condition with minimal wear on the driver side section of the front bench. The simulated wood dash is in excellent condition and all knobs, steering wheel show like new. The soft top is also in very good condition and the power operation functions but needs a little help manually speed up the process. Clutch, brakes, and steering are all good.

Included with the car are: Original 1941 Packard Data Book, shop manuals, owners manual, spare tire, misc spare parts, one set of keys, copy of previous title, clean current WA title, partial recent repair receipts. This is a great opportunity to acquire a nicely sorted running, driving example of the iconic, pre-war Packard convertible.
