For decades, Packard stood as Americas premier luxury automobile manufacturer, building refined motorcars that rivaled, and often surpassed, the worlds finest marques in engineering, quality, and prestige. By 1940, the Detroit automaker had thoroughly modernized its lineup, introducing a fresh naming convention that saw the venerable Super Eight evolve into the new One-Sixty. Positioned just beneath the flagship One-Eighty, the Packard 160 offered nearly identical styling and mechanical sophistication while delivering the effortless performance and impeccable road manners that had become synonymous with the Packard name.

Offered from the noted Packard collection of the late Gene Perkins, who was regarded as one of the foremost authorities on Packards and was a Pebble Beach Concours dElegance judge, is this spectacular 1940 Packard Super Eight One-Sixty 1803 Business Coupe. Acquired by Gene Perkins in 2019, this example underwent a comprehensive restoration that was completed in 2021. The desirable style 1378 business coupe body was repainted in its current cream color with subtle chrome trim. Black-painted steel wheels wear chrome hubcaps and trim rings that are wrapped in Auburn Deluxe Radial whitewall tires.

Equally impressive is the cabin, which is trimmed in a pale green leather and features a color-coordinated headliner, door panels, rear bulkhead, and a floor lined in green carpets. Complementing the overall appearance is a faux woodgrain dashboard and window trim. Additional interior features include a Packard Deluxe heater and defroster, locking glovebox, clock, and banjo-style steering wheel that features a stylish rim. Under the hood is a 356-cubic-inch L-head inline-eight engine that produces a smooth factory-rated 160 horsepower. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a column-shifted three-speed manual transmission with overdrive, allowing the driver to reach more modern speeds.

Celebrating its restoration, in 2023 it was awarded a Classic Car Club of America (CCCA) National First Prize badge, which is proudly displayed on the front windshield. Accompanying the sale of this Packard is an owners manual and a 1940 Packard Color and Fabric Selector brochure.
