Classic Cars: Know Where to Look for Rust Before Buying

If you're thinking about buying a classic car, you should know where to look for rust and how extensive the repair might be.

Classic Car Overview

This was partially restored about 8 years ago and as been sitting in my garage since.  This was a project for a family member that has passed about 10 years ago.  The engine is run every few months and sounds great. The body was restored off the frame. The engine is a rebuilt flathead V8. The trans is a 3 speed manual on the tree that was checked out and is fine.  The seats were reupholstered back then but were stored in a warehouse where mice and moths got to them so they will need to be upholstered again.  All parts, glass and trim are in boxes and ready to be installed. Some of the chrome is pitted and may need some help. The bumpers have been re-chromed and look great.

UPDATE:  I have spent more time looking closer at the under carriage and found some rusted out areas on the backside of the rockers (see pics) that the restore guy neutralized but did not replace the metal. This is not visible from the  exterior but needs to be disclosed. I do have new rockers in a box that come with the car.  The structural integrity does not appear to be compromised. This is the reason for the price reduction. Another thing noticed is the rear fenders are welded to the body so there is no seam.  They did a nice job and gives it a custom look. You can see it in the rear view pictures.  Finally, the seats have been installed so I no longer need a milk crate

Price is negotiable and I will consider bartering for a 1951 Chevy 5 window Pickup
