Classic Car Overview

Offered from the collection of the late Gene Perkins
Comprehensively restored by Mr. Perkins
70-plus years within the collection, Genes high school car
Classic and highly admired styling paired with V-8 power

Fords 1940 model year represented the final evolution of the companys pre-war styling before America entered World War II, combining graceful Art Deco-inspired design with the dependable engineering that had made Ford one of the worlds largest automobile manufacturers. Distinguished by its pointed grille, integrated headlamps, and streamlined body lines, the 1940 Ford Coupe remains one of the most recognizable American automobiles of its era. Beneath its handsome sheet metal rested Fords legendary flathead V-8 engine, an affordable powerplant that revolutionized the industry when introduced in 1932 by bringing eight-cylinder performance within reach of everyday buyers. By 1940, continual refinements had made the engine smoother, more reliable, and capable of delivering spirited performance with simple, straightforward mechanics.

Today, the 1940 Ford V-8 Coupe enjoys enduring popularity among collectors thanks to its timeless styling, rugged construction, and exceptional ease of ownership. The flathead V-8s uncomplicated design makes maintenance approachable, while an abundance of replacement parts and aftermarket support allows enthusiasts to keep these cars on the road with relative ease. Whether preserved in factory specification, tastefully restored, or transformed into a traditional hot rod, the 1940 Ford provides an engaging driving experience filled with unmistakable V-8 character. Its combination of dependable mechanicals, classic styling, and historical significance has secured its place as one of the most beloved and collectible American automobiles of the pre-war era.

This 1940 Ford Deluxe V-8 Coupe is offered from the Indiana-based Gene Perkins Estate Collection. Gene was a former Pebble Beach Concours dElegance judge and past president of the Classic Car Club of America (CCCA). One of the most meaningful cars within Genes impressive collection, which once featured a Model J and various award-winning Packards, this Deluxe V-8 Ford was the very car he drove to high school, having acquired it in the early 1950s. Being his first automobile that he cherished for over 70 years, he set forth on a comprehensive restoration, draping the body in its subtle, light tan color scheme. Correct exterior items include front and rear Ford script chrome bumper guards, dual side-view mirrors, and Ford script amber fog lights.

Once you open the doors, you are greeted by Deluxe broadcloth upholstery that can be seen on the bench seat and door panels. The interior comes with many amenities that aid in the driving experience such as a two-spoke Ford Deluxe script steering wheel, radio, under the dash heater, and a glovebox-mounted clock.

The 85-horsepower V-8 engine has been mechanically and cosmetically restored back to its period-correct appearance. The engine is backed by a first-year styling three-speed manual gear shifter mounted to the steering column. It is a lovely combination that offers the simple yet loved driving experience these early Ford V-8s offer.

Accompanying this Ford is a spare tire, 1940 Deluxe reference book, and Ford V-8 engine repair manual. Retained and cherished within the late Gene Perkins private noted collection for the last 70-plus years, this example is comprehensively restored and offers its next owner the luxury and pride of owning of one the most ionic automobiles produced during the pre-war era.
