Classic Car Overview
1940 Ford Deluxe 85 Business Coupe For consignment, a 1940 Ford Deluxe 85 business coupe showing 21,569 miles, but the true miles are unknown. Restoration began soon after our consignor purchased the car in 2017 and as part of that, every body part, including the rear bumper, was sandblasted in preparation for paint. There are some big panels on this car, so its likely the Jersey shore is missing some sand! Exterior Ruby Red Pearl is the color of choice, applied in the two stage process of basecoat and clearcoat. This dark cherry red has the intended benefit of rendering the contrasting chrome and polished elements electric, becoming more evident, highlighting the attention to artistry that went into everyday cars. Fine detail on the hood latch and trailing hood trim, reflective circular frames around the headlights, and a shoulder line trim piece you might otherwise miss. Three distinct arches shape the profile of the car with a rounded roof line between two prominent fenders connected by a wide running board. Below those bulging hips are 15-inch Cragar wheels, SS in front and Street Pros in the back carrying staggered size tires that help define this street rod. A louvered hood and a split rear window help out! Overall, paint and metalwork are nice, with imperfections noted as a small scratches, some dryness and orange peel, and some touch ups on a lower panel. Interior Black vinyl door panels lead to modern buckets seats in black leather, tall and offering side support and a headrest, and between them, a custom built center console affords passengers an armrest, cupholders and houses a Lokar shifter for the pilot. The driver also gets a 3 spoke sport steering wheel and a billet backed two gauge pod in front with tach and speedometer. In the center, four smaller gauges are housed on the body colored dash under a smooth metal dash pad. The white headliner is loose in places while black carpet fills the footwells and covers the trunk floor, almost wide enough to park a Yugo. Drivetrain A clean 305ci V8 is under the hood and along with a recent valve job, it houses a 270 Comp Cam, roller rockers, a Weiand Street Warrior intake and a Holley 670cfm 4-barrel carburetor. Those goodies are linked to a rebuilt TH350 3-speed automatic with a new torque converter, sending power to the 10 bolt rear axle. Headers are on board to exhaust spent gas. Configuration on the brakes is front discs and rear drums. The car runs on a 12 volt system. Undercarriage Nice and clean underneath with minimal surface rust and no errant fluids were noted. Front suspension includes a transverse leaf spring, a Speedway 4 drop axle, and new kingpins, while in back, leaf spring suspension is accompanied by Monroe shocks. Dual exhaust comes off the headers and into Cherrybomb mufflers before turning to the side and exiting in front of the rear wheels. Drive-Ability Gotta love modern seats in an old car and we do, so its a prime of the big Holley and a turn of the key, and this ruby red rocker lets Morgantown know its here to play! She runs good and provides nice power and acceleration as that pointed nose urges forward. Rear quarter windows help with visibility which is that bad out back either! During our lap, we note the speedometer, odometer, brake lights, and tachometer are all not working. Everything left on the list does get check marks for working conditions. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase. Under the protection of a pole barn, a lot of work went into bringing this business coupe up to cruiser status. And thats what we have here, a comfortable and capable relic of the 40s, a symbol of the working mans car now configured to play! So, when you clock out its time to check in for some Ford fun and this car gladly obliges!
