Classic Car Overview

The 1940 Cadillac V-16 Imperial Sedan Model 9033 represents the final and most refined expression of Cadillacs legendary sixteen-cylinder era, combining Art Deco presence with unmatched mechanical sophistication. Powered by the original 431 cubic inch V-16 and configured as a seven-passenger Imperial Sedan by Fisher-Fleetwood, this example presents in excellent restored condition following a comprehensive frame-off restoration completed in 2018. With fewer than two dozen built and only five known to survive, the Cadillac is best suited for premier concours display, CCCA events, and significant collections focused on prewar American luxury. This Cadillac is documented as the ninth Model 9033 Imperial Sedan produced for the final year of the iconic V-16 engine, from a total production run of just 20 examples in 1940 with only five remaining today. The Cadillac was purchased in 1953 by John Confer of Tucson, Arizona, who enjoyed the Cadillac regularly for many years before storing it with the intention of eventual restoration. The current owner acquired the Cadillac in 2011 with 54,551 miles indicated and undertook a meticulous frame-off restoration that concluded in 2018. Since completion, the Cadillac has been selectively shown at CCCA and Concours events, earning recognition for both authenticity and presentation, and now shows 54,558 miles. The Imperial Sedan is finished in its original Cavern Green, presenting with exceptional gloss, depth, and surface quality that highlight the Fleetwood bodys dramatic scale and Art Deco proportions. The fully rechromed grille, brightwork, and trim are in excellent condition, anchored by the iconic Flying Goddess hood ornament that also serves as the hood latch release. The headlights are fitted into the body and appear slightly asymmetrical. Twin side-mounted covered spare tires reinforce the formal profile, while bright green painted wheels fitted with V-16 chrome hubcaps and wide whitewall tires complete the period-correct presentation. The interior reflects Cadillacs pinnacle of chauffeur-driven luxury, with a black leather front compartment trimmed with tan carpeting that presents in very good to excellent condition. The rear passenger compartment is upholstered in tan broadcloth in excellent condition and configured with two captain-style chairs, dual folding jump seats, and plush carpeting with folding footrests, creating a serene and formal traveling environment. Burled walnut window surrounds, period-correct Art Deco lighting, and a functioning roll-up division security plate glass provide both elegance and acoustic isolation. Instrumentation, including the sweeping 100-mph speedometer, gauges, and dash clock, remains functional, while the original Motorphone intercom system is present though not currently operational. Power is provided by the original Series 90 L-head 431 cubic inch V-16 engine, equipped with dual carburetors, twin fuel pumps, and twin distributors, paired with the original three-spe
