One thing that the crew at Volo Auto Museum understands is that context is everything. They have gone the extra mile to display each movie car with memorabilia and signage that brings the scene to life. The museum features actual movie props such as Tom Cruise's racing seat from Days Of Thunder.

VIN 21JA0330572.

Owned since 1978.

Most recent restoration completed in 1981.

Restoration of Mechanicals:

Replaced engine with a re-built 1970 Chevy V-8 Engine (307 cubic inches).  It is in running condition with approximately 1500 miles on the rebuilt engine.

Replaced transmission with automatic V-8 transmission from the 1970 Chevy.

Added new automatic transmission cooler.

Replaced radiator with a new radiator.

Replaced shock absorbers.

New Everstart 750 cold-cranking battery with 5 year Warranty (replacement first 3 years, last two prorated) purchased Aug. 20, 2019, installed in trunk for easy accessibility.

Original drum brakes are intact and in working condition.

Master Cylinder has been removed.

A replacement kit purchased new ($900) with a master cylinder, brake pedal, power brake unit and front disc brakes is included and requires installation before this classic can be driven.

New replacement speedometer cable is included.

Replaced radio with Clarion AM-FM radio with cassette.

Authentic Michigan 1939 License Plate.

Restoration of body:

Sandblasted off paint down to bare metal and installed two small patch panels, one on driver’s side and one on passenger’s side.  The patches are not visible on the finish.

The entire exterior, underside of hood and trunk lid and interior metal on doors are painted with Jennifer Blue acrylic lacquer (a color used on Cadillacs in the 1970’s).    Overall, exterior paint and body is in very good condition for age of last restoration.

Some crazing, including but not necessarily limited to, the rear fenders and driver’s door panel near handle.  A small area of lifting near bottom of right fender and on trunk lid.

Replaced original taillights with Blue Dot taillights.

Interior Condition:

Black headliner in excellent condition.

Upholstery – White/beige/black Houndstooth Cloth with black bonded synthetic leatherette.

The Houndstooth pattern, first uncovered in a Swedish peat bog dated between 300 and 100BC, is timeless.  Contemporary houndstooth checks may have originated as a pattern in woven tweed cloth from the Scottish lowlands.   In the 1930’s, it was adapted by the wealthy as a symbol of style and is still used today by Chanel, Louis Vuitton and Armani.  Upholstery is in excellent condition for age, except for a few blemishes or wear on the left side of the driver’s seat (see photos) and appears to have original springs.  I cannot attest to whether it is original to the vehicle or part of a restoration prior to my ownership since I did not restore it during my ownership.

No glove box behind the interior glove box door.

Miscellaneous Info:

Trunk lid is misaligned from accidental contact with garage door, needs repair.

Trunk interior not restored during my ownership.

Functional driver’s side vent window shows separation from laminate where the two pieces of window glass are fused together.
