1939 Buick Special 8 For Sale This 1939 Buick Special four-door sedan pairs its original Fisher-built body with modern running gear, making a prewar Buick that is far easier to drive and maintain than an unaltered example. The body tag identifies it as a 1939 Model 41 Special, Buicks entry-level series that year. It sits on a 1977 Pontiac chassis and is finished in red with new headlights and tail lights over a beige interior. Under the hood, the Pontiac 350 V8 from the same 1977 donor car replaces the Buicks original straight-eight and is topped with a new Edelbrock AVS2 carburetor. It is paired with a TH350 automatic transmission and 2.55 gearing, a tall ratio that suits relaxed highway cruising. The fuel system was also addressed, with the gas tank removed, resealed, and fitted with a new fuel pump. Braking comes from the Pontiac chassis, with front discs and rear drums. Inside, the original dash gauges have been refurbished, so the cabin keeps its period look. Bosch gauges for water temperature, oil pressure, and voltage add monitoring of the engines key vitals, and an aftermarket radio is installed. Front and rear bench seats keep the traditional prewar sedan seating layout. Altogether, this is a driver-oriented 1939 Buick for someone who wants the look of a Fisher-bodied prewar sedan with the drivability of a 1970s drivetrain and chassis.
