This BMW 327 Sport Cabriolet was registered in Eberswalde of Germany on 1 July 1939. While the early history of chassis number 87296 thereafter is not known, it was acquired by the consignor in the mid-1990s. A thorough restoration was then reportedly carried out, with the car being painted in the stunning two-tone colour scheme that it proudly wears today.
The vendor drove the BMW with great enthusiasm over the following decades. Accordingly, invoices on file document the high level of maintenance carried out. In 2010, the decision was taken to install a freshly rebuilt BMW M78 six-cylinder engine (the same type as supplied new with BMW 327s and 321s). In 2016, this 327 Sport Cabriolet was involved in an accident and sustained damage to the rear of the body. It was professionally repaired, with corresponding invoices totalling nearly 60,000; the work is captured in an accompanying series of images. A Volvo gearbox was fitted for more practical use but a period-correct BMW gearbox accompanies the car.
