Classic Car Overview

This 1937 Ford Model 78 Deluxe woodie station wagon is powered by a 221ci flathead V8 mated to a three-speed manual transmission and features steel bodywork finished in burgundy with wood sides over brown upholstery. Equipment includes a black vinyl roof, drum brakes, sliding side windows, a rear-mounted spare tire carrier, an AM radio, and three rows of bench seating. The Woody was in a private collection of forty years long-term prior ownership. This Model 78 Deluxe wagon is now offered for sale by West Port Auto Center in Fenton Missouri. 314-346-6039

Model 78 station wagons featured wood bodywork produced by Fords Iron Mountain plant in Michigans Upper Peninsula, and a total of 9,304 examples were produced for the 1937 model year. The steel body panels are finished in burgundy, while the wood doors, quarter panels, and tailgate are accompanied by a black vinyl roof covering. Equipment includes chrome bumpers and trim, turn signals, rubber-lined running boards, a single side mirror, sliding side windows, dual taillights, and a clamshell tailgate with a spare tire carrier.

Body-color steel wheels wear chrome hubcaps and trim rings and are mounted with Coker Classic whitewall tires. The car rides on a 112 wheelbase and features front and rear transverse leaf springs. Braking is provided by four-wheel drum brakes.

The cabin features three rows of bench seating upholstered in brown vinyl. Interior appointments include wood trim, dual sun visors, a wood headliner, vinyl flooring, a glove box, and an AM radio. The banjo-style steering wheel sits ahead of a 100-mph speedometer and a combination gauge with readouts for fuel level, oil pressure, amperage, and water temperature.

This is a very nice example of a 1937 Wood Wagon Model 78 and would make a a gret vehicle to take the grand kids for ice cream or a business advertisement!
