Classic Cars: Know Where to Look for Rust Before Buying

If you're thinking about buying a classic car, you should know where to look for rust and how extensive the repair might be.

Classic Car Overview

Theres something special about the 1936 Ford Model 68 Touring Sedan Convertible. The styling combines the traditional upright grille with a streamlined body to create one of the best-looking cars of the period. This one remains faithful to the original idea, from the flathead V8 to the removable center posts. So youll understand classic open-top motoring at its finest. Many of these have been turned into restomods over the years, but this one is more about an honest 1930s experience. The gently rounded fenders with their peaked crease through the middle, the highly detailed hood vents, neatly dipped bumpers, and stylish (and rare) trunkback rear - it all feels like this has all been transported intact from 1936. And everyone loves the correct V8 wheel covers with iconic white walls. But really, we know your favorite part is the greyhound hood ornament that was reserved for the best Fords of the 1930s. And the Washington Blue paint seems to represent both the iconic and premium presentation of this Ford. It continues to have a nice gloss in the sunshine, and the whole car has the right look of care. We were told it was fully restored in the mid-1990s, and todays presentation shows it has only been driven responsibly since then. So its an impressive style with just the right hints of maturity. The dark tan leather interior looks handsome and authentic against the deep blue exterior. Even the door panels are done to match. You get a classic banjo-style steering wheel that gives an easy view of the cool vintage gauges. The whole dash has a great classic style. This is a proper sedan, which means four full doors and a spacious back seat. So its nice that this has a good cruising attitude. And underneath the well-fitting boot, a full folding roof. And this soft top has extra appeal. The b-pillars and full roll-up windows make for a well-enclosed car. But you can remove the pillars and fully roll down the glass. Now the center section has a similar appeal to the cool phaeton cars. Open the hood, and the correct feeling continues. The 221 cubic-inch flathead motor is the iconic V8 that earned Ford its powerful reputation. This one has a clean style that has been dressed correctly to tell everyone at the car show that its more about being a 1930s machine than a hot rod. Theres a similar situation with the exhaust that still makes that unmistakable flathead sound - a tune you wont be able to get enough of as you row through the three-speed manual transmission. And when its time for highway/byway cruising, this even has a Columbia two-speed overdrive rear axle. This is an impressive classic that runs like a true cruiser. So if you were looking for a pre-war premium drop-top distinction, this one lets you arrive in style. Call now!
