1934 Packard Model 1107 Sedan The Packard Eleventh Series V12 is a quintessential American classic of the early 1930s. On the one hand, the leading manufacturers of the day competed to see which could be declared King of the Hill when it came to the multi-cylinder luxury car market. Cadillac, Auburn, Franklin, Lincoln and Pierce-Arrow all brought out 12-cylinder models in the early to mid-1930s, just as the Depression took a stranglehold on the worlds economy. As Packard was generally acknowledged to have marketed the worlds first production V12 with the 1916 Twin Six, when their later twelve was introduced in 1932, it quickly became a standard by which others were measured. Its 67 V-block gave it the kind of smooth balance expected of a Packard and indeed when standing by one at idle, it may be difficult to discern if it is running or not, such is its level of refinement. For consignment if you want to run with the it crowd, mainly the gangsters of the mid 1930s then this could be the car for you. Long and luxurious, in tasteful high key color mode (white and gray), plenty of chrome and tinted windows and a newer V8 and some souped-up drivetrain elements and a custom interior ladies and gentlemen the jazz age is upon us and we are bathed in free talking scat singing improvisational organization, 30s style. Exterior Gorgeous is a word to best describe the exterior design and look of this car. Miles of straight rust-free sculpted steel, well minded gaps throughout, and a bathing of white with light gray accenting, don your spats, your ascot, and cane with the top hat, and slip into the back where I can chauffeur you to the ball. A long winged topped front cowled hood with a beautiful chromed vertical ribbed radiator grille and shiny surround to lead the way can be seen. With single headlight on either side with some lower big round fog lights perched on the chromed bumper and this car will be shouting youve ARRIVED! Curvaceous fenders with a signal light perched on top, bathed in light gray, frame wide white wrapped chromed McClean wire wheels, and have a spare metal covered tire at the back portion of each front fender, just before the running board. Gray rubber in pristine condition covers the boards which magically melt into the rear fender for more framing of these beautiful Packard wires. The long hood is framed in light gray for the window surrounds and has a central gray vinyl top. On back a near perfect chromed luggage rick can fold down for extra baggage. Chromed stalk taillights hang from the back of the rear curved fenders. Interior Opening the doors with a common latch on the B pillar we see pure burl shiny and clean with no water damage to the sills doors. Below is tufted and stitched embossed art deco inspired designs on the red suede which covers the lower parts of these doors. Power window toggles are now on, and the lever styled actuator remains. Inside more wide tufted and buttoned overstuffed red suede buckets are in front of a customized and modernized dash. More wood burl, lacquered to within an inch of its life, surrounds a central instrument cluster which is in a red field, sports brass bezels, for all the white faced Classic Instruments gauges. Some gold shiny A/C round ball vents push the Vintage A/C to the passengers from the dash. Fronting this is a Wabbit custom built steering wheel in wood, and drilled metal spokes, rally size. In back, tucked in behind the front seats is a full lacquered wood bar complete with TV viewing cubbies filled with the video components and the TV. Bar glasses and room for your favorite swill can be stored in the cabinet or in the holders on the top f either side to this cabinet. Past plenty more red velour and a smattering of more wood burl trimmings, is a large rear bench with more tufting and buttons and dual central fold down armrests. In the corners of the CC pillars are family crests, which have a nice red fuzzy broadcloth covering the background and the headliner which is near perfect. Very clean and like new gray carpeting floods the floors. Drivetrain Under the wing topped, cowled hood is a near perfectly restored engine bay. Within its confines we note a newer 454ci big block Chevy engine. All polished and nice it has a single 4 Bbl Edelbrock carburetor feeding it and on back is a new TH400 3-speed automatic coupled with a Dana 60- 4.11 rear axle. Noted are cast iron headers. Undercarriage Just beautifully appointed underneath with no rust and all shiny and nice even free of road dirt. An aluminum transmission case polished, and some extra leaf springs to compensate for the extra weight are now teflon coated for easy smooth riding suspension. An all-aluminum exhaust is seen sealing its way around the undercarriage. A new wiring harness by Centaic and a custom built radiator have been put on for extra HD activity. Drive-Ability What a ride, what a car! She fires right up and runs like new with great acceleration, ultra smooth ride, and solid braking which is now power assisted. Power steering helps for the handling of this big car, and all functions were working just fab during my test drive. And you will look great doing it! Just a wonderful clean modernized and updated Packard still looking its part from 1934, but with the underpinnings and mechanicals of a nearly new car.
