In the early 1930s Lagonda proudly competed with Bentley for the hearts of gentlemen enthusiasts. Among its finest products was the M45 with a durable overhead-valve Meadows six-cylinder engine and often dressed in lightweight sporting coachwork and capable of speeds exceeding 160 km/h.
The M45 offered here was bodied as what the factory dubbed a Silent Travel Pillarless Saloon, with no pillar between the front and rear doors, enabling unusually easy access to the interior for both rows of passengers. Acquired by the Godehardt family in 2008 from a seller in Switzerland, the motorcar today appears in charmingly patinated condition, including an interior with leather upholstery that, if not original, is old enough to have the proper effect, and a dashboard with proper Lagonda-badged Smiths instrumentation.
The body is finished in a rich combination of medium and pale grey, with bright beltline accents and Lucas headlamps, as well as a matching driving light. It should be noted that the car appears to be missing its original bulkhead identification plate, as well as the engine number in its expected location on the crankcase. This is a most charming and attractive vintage Lagonda, ideal for future touring.
