Classic Cars: Know Where to Look for Rust Before Buying

If you're thinking about buying a classic car, you should know where to look for rust and how extensive the repair might be.

Classic Car Overview

1934 Ford Custom Pickup With the huge success of the Model T and Model A, Henry Ford knew he had to follow it up with something great. Instead of just updating the Model A in 1932 he introduced the world to the Model B and the Model 18. This marked an important milestone in automotive history as the Model 18 was the very first mass marketed affordable vehicle with a V8 motor. Ford clearly had a good idea because they were so popular the company couldnt even keep up with the demand. While the 32 is an iconic car it still had some resemblance to the Model A so in 33 they introduced another redesign with a longer wheel base, new frame, and more rounded fenders to name a few features. This design would carry over into 1934 with only a few minor changes. When it comes to 1930s automobiles it is tough to ignore Ford because they have been the basis for some of the coolest classics and street rods on the road. This very well built 1934 Ford mixes up the designs because although it is a 34 body it wears a 1932 grill shell making it quite unique. It is all rust free original steel, except for the fenders/running boards/steel custom bed, and wears a beautiful bright Red paint job. Despite the customizations it still incorporates some traditional features like the original chrome bumpers and headlight bar between the chrome headlights. The taillights have been converted to tear drop LED lights inset into the smoothed rear bed. It has a custom power lift rear bed cover and the battery has been relocated underneath in a custom chrome box. The truck rides on American Torq Thrust wheels and it has a taller tire in back giving it a great stance. The steel louvered hood opens from either side to reveal the 350ci Chevy V8 crate motor. It has been dressed up with lots of chrome and billet components like the finned valve covers/air cleaner which are also accented with Red. It is also fitted with an Edelbrock intake, Weber 4 barrel carburetor, chrome alternator, chrome compressor, cool flex hosing and Taylor wires. It is kept running nice and cool via the aftermarket radiator and fan with shroud. The truck runs great and the motor is mated to a Turbo 350 automatic transmission. It has a Mustang II style front end with disc brakes and is a very nice driver. It also has cruise control which is something you rarely see incorporated into these custom builds. The interior is very nicely done and finished out in a Tan leather. It has a power adjustable bench seat and the upholstery work looks like new. It has a push button Lokar shifter through the floor which moves through the gears with ease. The dash is all painted Red to match and fitted with White face Autometer gauges. A custom drop panel was incorporated under the dash for the Vintage AC controls. In front of the driver sits a chrome tilt steering column topped off with a very cool billet steering wheel that almost looks like how a Banjo wheel would have been designed in the modern time.
