First, it would be a mistake to dismiss this pretty 1933 Ford cabriolet just because it has a V6. Remember that the 4.3 is literally of a 350, and it s a neat fit in the nose of this slick Ford. Heck, it even sounds like a V8 at idle! This remains one of the most thoughtfully engineered street rods we ve seen with all kinds of neat features that make it easy to live with. The body is fiberglass, of course, but it faithfully captures the 1933 Ford look and finish quality is outstanding. It was built in the 90s, but the finish is still shiny and virtually blemish-free, suggesting great care throughout its life. The suicide-style doors are opened remotely with electric poppers, and the trunk lid is power-actuated as well. The hood is a steel Rootleib piece with custom-fabricated side panels that help ventilate the engine bay. Billet bumperettes, big headlights, and LED taillights add to the car s appeal. Some subtle graphics give it some interest, but this cool little Ford will look great for years to come.
The two-tone blue and yellow interior is neatly tailored with comfortable bucket seats, custom door panels, and a trim-fitting headliner on the lift-off cabriolet top. The list of features includes a tilt steering column with wood-rimmed steering wheel, cold A/C, power windows, and a trick little consolette for the carbon-fiber shifter. There are deadbolts for the suicide doors as well as a warning chime reminding you to lock them when you get into the car safety matters! There are also neat little storage drawers under the seats, which is a useful feature. A full array of gauges monitors all the engine s vitals, along with indicator lights for turn signals and high-beams, as well as a shifter position indicator. Nice, right? The top can be removed in a few minutes with just a wrench, although you ll need a buddy to help lift it off. And by using one of the hidden switches, the trunk lid powers itself open and closed and inside you ll find a neatly trimmed cargo bay with more clever storage cubbies and a courtesy light. Someone was really thinking when this rod went together.
As we mentioned, it would be a mistake to dismiss the 4.3-liter high-output V6 under the hood. Pulled from a 90s S10 pickup, it s torquey and bulletproof reliable, and fits so neatly in the front of the 33 Ford that the firewall did not require any modifications--great for legroom! With a few modifications like headers and dual exhaust, the engine feels muscular and moves the 33 without any effort, cruising easily with modern traffic. Factory fuel injection and electronic ignition make it reliable, and there s a big radiator up front keeping it cool. Seriously, come drive it and you ll understand why this is a smart choice. It s backed by a 700R4 4-speed automatic transmission with a deep overdrive for relaxed highway cruising and surprisingly decent fuel economy (definitely a factor these days!). The suspension doesn t break any new ground, with A-arms and coil-overs up front and a Ford 8-inch rear end on trailing arms and coil-overs. A stainless gas tank, custom dual exhaust, disc brakes, and rack-and-pinion steering round out the list of thoughtful upgrades that make this car a pleasure to drive. Staggered Budnik aluminum wheels are fitted with right-sized 185/70/14 front and 255/70/15 rear radials that give it a perfect rake.
