1933 Ford Deluxe
Following in the tradition of previous Ford factory built Mustang race cars like the 1968 Cobra Jet, the Boss 429 and the FR500S Mustang Challenge car, Ford Racing and AAI started work on a production run of 50 Cobra Jet Mustangs in January 2010. Ford Racing built 50 Cobra Jet Mustangs at Ford vendor facilities.
One thing that the crew at Volo Auto Museum understands is that context is everything. They have gone the extra mile to display each movie car with memorabilia and signage that brings the scene to life. The museum features actual movie props such as Tom Cruise's racing seat from Days Of Thunder.
Classic Car Overview
This classic woody wagon was custom built by Cecil Taylor with Hercules Motor Car in Tampa Florida and completed in 2003. This gorgeous Woody Wagon was once owned by the eccentric and world-renowned Decatur, Georgia based designer, Ryan Gainey. Mr. Gainey and I were friends and next-door neighbors, and he left the woody to me following his death in a tragic fire in the summer of 2016 while heroically attempting to save his beloved Jack Russell Terriers; Leo, Baby Ruth, and Jelly Bean.
I once asked him why he purchased that particular wagon and he responded that ever since seeing Chitty Chitty Bang Bang he had always wanted a Woody. I spent countless hours painstakingly refurbishing the car to its current condition.
Let’s face it, anyone can go out and buy a Ferrari or a well-done Mustang, but this ride is a real head turner and has a very distinctive vibe that you just can't get anywhere else. If you should find yourself in the driver's seat of this woody, please be forewarned, I can't even drive it around the block without getting honks, waves, thumbs up and the like, and you will likely get the same thing. So if any of that offends you this car is not for you. Believe it or not (and don’t tell my wife) but I even get waves and smiles from pretty ladies who would never give me the time of day if I were in my daily driver.
This past August, just after I completed the refurbishment work, I took The Woody to Caffeine and Octane (and if you didn’t already know: it's a monthly nationally recognized all makes, all models car show in Atlanta, GA that regularly attracts over 2,000 vehicles and 15,000 fans). As I rolled in, I parked where I was directed, with all the other thousands of cars. While talking to a buddy a few spaces over during the setup, I noticed a gentleman swiftly making a b-line towards The Woody. He took a quick pensive walk around stopping briefly at all four sides. He then quickly stuck his head inside, and when it came out he said, “who’s the owner of this car"? I stepped up and said, "I am." He went on to ask, "have you ever been in the featured area before"? I replied no. He said let's go. I'm not trying to brag but out of over 2,000 cars in attendance that day I thought it was an honor to have been asked to be a featured automobile.
