Classic Car Overview

1933 Chevrolet CA Master Sport Coupe How long has it been since youve seen one of these that hasnt been hot rodded and stuffed full of late-model running gear? Far less common than the Ford 3-window coupes, the 1933 Chevrolet Master Sport Coupe remains a triumph of affordable car design, a car that was inexpensive to buy but looked like it should have cost hundreds more than its modest $535, ($12,516 in todays market), original sticker price would suggest. In barn find + category condition, its truly a gangster car with presetable black paint for the body, what appears to be the original mohair interior and purported to be a 4 owner car. Its got wonderful lines and steel spoked wheels with some snappy moon caps. Read on and fall in love with 1933 all over again. NO TITLE-SOLD ON A BILL OF SALE ONLY Exterior Leading the way is the egg crate filled and chrome corral grilleup front and the single chrome bezel and cased headlight on either side to light your way. The horn hangs below the drivers headlight and moving downward gives us a view of the simple curved chrome bumper to frame the lower of the cars curvaceous front fenders, which are bathed black. A nice long cowled hood has some accenting horizontal ribs on either side vents, and it hooks up with the passenger compartment at the firewall. More black bathes this body and overall some light fading of the finish, lacquer cracks and an overall patina that comes from age. The central panel of the roof is heavily aged vinyl in black, as the technology of the day did not have the machining capabilities to press a full steel roof. The rounded cabin melts into the curved downward trunk line and frames the single doors and snazzy D shaped rear B pillar glass is seen behind the back of the main crank down window. The glass remains all original with the exception of the right corner glass which is easily notable due to a differing tint. Below the single doors is a running board in black and covered with rubber that is aged, cracked and missing in areas. This board gently curves into the rear fender which undulates with the rear of the car. The back of the car melts into a black painted rear roll pan, and has an exterior mounted spare tire in the back of a curve to match the tire space, rear bumper. 18-inch black wire wheels are wrapped with heavily dry rotted white wall rubber, and a central chrome moon cap is on all wheels including the spare in back. Interior Worn and quite possibly the original tan mohair broadcloth covers all the interior, including the door panels and the buttoned and wide tuck and roll paneled overstuffed interior bench. Black rubber matting provides the sea of flooring for the beach to float on. There is moth damage, light tearing and general wear seen on the bench. A nice big round black steering wheel is fronting the all black painted steel dash front. Within this dash are dual crescent shaped wood veneer panels and dash central holds the factory instrument cluster within a ribbed and chromed panel. A long shifter and handbrake are on the floor in the center just in front of the bench. A shout to the trunk which is rust free and fairly clean in all steel configuration. Plenty of room for the Tommy guns and hooch! Drivetrain A patina and surface rusted 206.8ci inline 6 cylinder engine is within the engine bay under the cowled hood. The engine has a single 1-barrel carburetor on the side and is missing its oil bath air cleaner. Noted is a 3-speed manual transmission attached to the back with a 4.11 rear axle configuration. Overall fairly complete and intact for this engine and its outer surfaces along with some supple vintage wiring. Undercarriage Surface rust and plenty of patina on X frame, and body hangers, but no invasive rust is seen underneath. The wood flooring remains intact, as do the surface rusted bottoms of the running boards. Road dirt is present on most of the suspension parts which include a leaf spring arrangement front and rear. Mechanical drum brakes on all 4 corners. Drive-Ability Fresh from long term storage, this barn finds engine does turn over by hand but no attempt was made to start the car. Certainly rust free, with a serious need for a total stripping and repaint. No rust through and the interior is very original. A survivor if you will, not cut up and hot rodded.
