Classic Car Overview
To Be OFFERED AT AUCTION WITHOUT RESERVE at RM Sothebys The Hershey Auction event, 7 - 8 October 2026.
Offered Without Reserve $25,000 - $35,000 USD
By 1932, Plymouth had firmly established itself as one of Americas best automotive values. That year marked the final appearance of the companys original Silver Dome four-cylinder engine, introduced with Plymouths 1928 debut as Chrysler Corporations entry-level marque. The engines farewell coincided with a thoroughly modern redesign featuring a longer wheelbase, Chryslers innovative Free Wheeling transmission as standard equipment, and streamlined styling highlighted by single-piece fenders and a hood extending uninterrupted from the chrome radiator shell to the windshield. The result was an automobile that looked and felt considerably more expensive than its modest $595 price tag, helping cement the 1932 PBs reputation as one of the most handsome Plymouths ever produced.
Among the ten body styles offered for 1932, the rakish Sport Roadster ranked among the most desirable, with just 2,163 examples produced. Its combination of sporting proportions, open-air motoring, and practical features made it especially appealing to buyers then and popular among enthusiasts today.
Finished in tan with contrasting orange coach striping, this Sport Roadster rides on painted wire wheels finished to match the striping and fitted with factory hubcaps and wide whitewall tires. Exterior appointments include the distinctive Plymouth Flying Lady radiator mascot, dual side-mounted spare wheels, a drivers side rearview mirror, and a folding rear luggage rack that enhances both practicality and period charm.
The inviting brown interior features a full-width bench seat, matching door panels with storage pockets, a complete suite of period instrumentation, and hand controls for the throttle, choke, and Free Wheeling transmission, one of the Model PBs most innovative features. When engaged, the system allowed the car to coast freely after releasing the throttle, thus reducing engine noise, improving fuel economy, and permitting remarkably smooth clutchless upshifts between second and third gears while underway an advanced feature for the early 1930s.
The rear houses a spacious trunk compartment and a traditional rumble seat. Accessed by integral steps on the passenger-side rear fender, it provides seating for two additional passengers, completing the quintessential sporting roadster experience of the era.
Combining handsome styling, innovative engineering, and one of Plymouths rarest open body styles, this 1932 Model PB Sport Roadster offers an engaging entry into pre-war collecting. Equally well suited for regional touring, concours display, or enjoyment at marque events, it represents one of the most charming and distinctive models of Plymouths formative years and remains an enduring example of the companys commitment to quality, value, and style.
