Classic Car Overview

The 1932 Packard Model 902 Phaeton represents one of the finest expressions of prewar American luxury, craftsmanship, and engineering excellence. This four-passenger open touring car was part of Packards celebrated Standard Eight line, powered by a robust 320 cubic inch inline eight-cylinder engine delivering 110 horsepower through a four-speed manual transmission. Chassis number 501-46 has been preserved in largely original condition, showing 91,713 miles believed to be from new. The Packard remains a fine candidate for continued preservation, local touring, or CCCA Full Classic events where its authenticity and history will be greatly admired. Delivered new on March 24, 1933, through Suburban Motor Company in Burlingame, California, this Packard passed into the current owners family over 80 years ago. The original vehicle number plate remains affixed to the firewall, confirming its authenticity as an original-bodied Phaeton that left the factory in 1932. According to family history, this Packard is said to have connections to Hollywood, though those who knew the exact story have since passed on. Regardless, its California provenance and long-term family ownership add significantly to its historical appeal. This example stands as a remarkable survivor that offers a direct link to one of Packards most elegant and enduring eras. The exterior presentation of this Packard is stately and refined. The long 136.5-inch wheelbase body is straight and well-proportioned, finished in a distinguished tri-tone color scheme of burgundy with darker black character lines and black fenders. The finish remains in good condition with attractive depth and gloss, while the yellow-painted chrome spoke wheels display some light rust consistent with age. Dual side-mounted whitewall spares, dual spotlights, a rear-mounted trunk rack, and the signature Goddess of Speed radiator mascot complete the cars imposing and authentic presentation. The new tan broadcloth convertible top and cover are in excellent condition, fitted to the original wood and chrome top frame, which may benefit from minor maintenance. The interior of the Packard is inviting and well-preserved, retaining much of its original character. The black naugahyde upholstery remains in very good condition, complemented by newly fitted black carpeting. The original faux-woodgrain painted dashboard houses the correct gauges and retains a pleasing patina, a testament to its age and authenticity. The rear passenger compartment features its original faux-woodgrain painted footplate, plated chrome hand and foot bars, and functional storage pockets on all four doors, all of which remain in very good condition. The generous four-passenger configuration and thoughtful details reflect Packards emphasis on comfort and craftsmanship. Power is provided by Packards 320 cubic inch, L-head inline eight-cylinder engine producing 110 horsepower, paired with a four-speed manual transmission. The car rides on a solid front axle wi
