Following in the tradition of previous Ford factory built Mustang race cars like the 1968 Cobra Jet, the Boss 429 and the FR500S Mustang Challenge car, Ford Racing and AAI started work on a production run of 50 Cobra Jet Mustangs in January 2010. Ford Racing built 50 Cobra Jet Mustangs at Ford vendor facilities.

Lights! Cameras! Cars!

One thing that the crew at Volo Auto Museum understands is that context is everything. They have gone the extra mile to display each movie car with memorabilia and signage that brings the scene to life. The museum features actual movie props such as Tom Cruise's racing seat from Days Of Thunder.

Classic Car Overview

1932 Ford Three Window $39,500
Build your own car for over $50,000, or buy this excellently equipped driver and get it all in one complete package. Street/strip (if you install rollbar). Car is registered, clear title, and street legal so totally enjoyable for street cruising to the local Sonic.
6,210 miles on chassis, engine rebuilt by Clay's Machine Shop in San Antonio, Texas in 2015. Engine has less than 1,800 miles on it, all street, never revved over 4500 RPM (Red Line 6200). Wheels and tires replaced when engine rebuilt. Engine Oil has always been GTX 10W-40.
The original 429 Ford engine has been bored and stroked into a 557, with steel crank, gear driven Lunati Roller Hydraulic Cam, Roller Rockers, aluminum rods, dished aluminum pistons (runs on 93 octane), Jon Kaase Super Cobra Jet Aluminum Heads, topped with Weiand Tunnel Ram holding two Holley 650 Double Pumper Carbs fed with electric fuel pump and braided lines. Fuel pressure gauge mounted between carbs shows pressure at 6-7 lbs at idle. Carb jettings have been tuned to local sea level base altitude.
Re-calibration of jets may be needed depending on your sea level base altitude. Engine has MSD electronic ignition and spark plug wires. Mickey Thompson finned aluminum black/polished aluminum rocker arm covers. Single wire chrome alternator keeps battery properly charged
The cooling system is from Cooling Components Cooling, and works to perfection. A shrouded 16" electric fan with thermostat is behind the triple core radiator which also has an enclosed transmission cooler. Engine never exceeds 190, even cruising on warm days (rare to cruise in heat, since the car only has a 2/50 a/c: i.e., 2 windows down, 50 mph)
Exhaust is dumped into baffle suppressed individual "zoomie" headers. I took the baffles out once, but it's way too much for the street. Cops around here give you a pass on the noise if you're just cruising, but your locale could be different. Fun to pull up to a stop light next to someone with windows down, and watch them roll up the windows to cut down on even the mellow sound of the engine idleing. I always try to be considerate of other drivers, for the sake of the street rodding community public relations. No goosing or showing off on the street. Street Racing is completely not cool any time or any place. Car will pass inspection at any track, I think if you have a roll cage installed.
The only time this car has been accelerated in a peppy manner is freeway on ramps, with no traffic around, and keeping to the speed limit on the freeway. The car is capable of much higher speeds than I'm willing to drive, or which would be safe without a rollbar.
At the same time the engine was rebuilt, a new Ford Racing C-6 was installed, with Gear Vendors Overdrive, connected to a narrowed Currie Ford 9 inch Traction-Lok limited slip rear end with Summers Bros axles, and 4:11 ratio. With overdrive engaged, (I leave it on all the time), car is capable of road trips, and will cruise nicely at customary speed limits in town, and on the freeway.
Transmission works either as full automatic (put in drive, and forget it), or you can play with the gears, and drive it like you want (my choice usually, because auto shift from 1-2 is quick, and you don't get to hear the motor purr. 2800 is a good shift point for street driving.

Chromed dropped front axle, with Rocket Spokes on front end, with Mickey Thompson Sportsman 26x7.50x SLT tires. Rear end equipped with Weld Aluminum
"kidney bean" wheels, 31x16.5x 15LT
Inside, the car has black carpet, with "Wild Woodpecker" rubber mats. Chrome manual emergency handle on passenger side. Corvair red vinyl seats, with tilt (necessary to reach battery compartment and small storage bin behind seats.). Battery is an Optima Racing Battery.
Steering is on a chrome tilt column, with horn button connected to an "oogah" horn, and which also contains switches for tilt feature, and signal switch for working stop, turn, and tail lights. Safety STT lights have been installed on each side of the rear window, to enhance safety, and help people behind you to see what you're doing.
Wildwood Disc Power brakes, with stainless steel lines for all four wheels. Car
has a "cigarette lighter" style 3 station power take off, suitable for powering up your GPS, your car charger, and your tablet charger simultaneously as you cruise around.
High/low beam switch for headlights on the floor like the old cars. Manually operated overhead interior light. Oval polished aluminum rear view mirrors inside, and on doors.
Shifter is a reverse pattern (low all the way back, push forward to shift) B&M safety shifter, with reverse lockout. Gauges are matched set of 6 Classic Instruments, Inc. guages, including Water Temp, Oil Pressure, Speedometer, Tachometer, Fuel, and Volt. Cooling works perfect, oil pressure reflects 60 plus pounds at idle, Speedometer is accurate within 2-3 miles, Tach is accurate, Fuel is a little off, Volt is right on. The fuel tank is a standard 32 Ford 13 gallon tank. Using the mileage/gallons old fashioned gas mileage calculations, car gets about 10 miles to the gallon. But of course, if fuel cost, and mileage is a consideration for you, this is not your car.
Doors are "suicide doors" with manual door locks, and manual safety bolt to keep
it shut. Windows are electric. Wiper on driver's side only, works with manual switch.
(Who would be stupid enough to drive this car in the rain - don't drive if you haven't checked the weather, and if you get caught out, find a bridge, or a gas station).
Car is offered as is, no warranties express or implied. I am not a mechanic, have
never worked on the car at all, and all work done on the car was done by outside vendors/mechanics/shops. Representations are what I believe is the truth, but except for the stuff you can visually verify by looking at the car, all "out of sight" equipment is as represented to me by the person building/modifying/repairing the car at the time and place it was done. I have no reason to suspect, nor do I suspect, that anyone misrepresented their work on the car, as it performs and drives like I expected when the work was authorized and paid for.
I have no doubt this car is the best driver on the market. It has some little paint dings, and is not a show car by any means. But if you're looking for a car you can buy and drive the same day and will be a fun car for cruising, with virtually no maintenance besides oil and transmission oil changes, and gas and insurance, you'd be hard pressed to find a better deal.
Serious inquiries only, please. If you can't afford it, thanks for your interest.
