Classic Car Overview

Another beautiful Basil Classic... this 1931 Ford Model A showing 6,272 miles has been handpicked and meets Joe Basils standards of excellence and tradition of fine automobiles since 1951.

Shown here is a 1931 Ford Victoria street rod, still another handpicked classic vehicle we are proud to present to you, one that conforms with Joe Basils standard of excellence in automobile sales since 1951. Ford began assembling vehicles in 1903 with its original Model A, which predated the famous mass-produced Model T. The cost of the earliest Model A, a two-seat runabout, was about $800, considerably higher than the assembly-line-produced Model T, which a consumer could purchase for just $260 in 1908. By 1931, Ford had added many models to choose from, including its newest release, the Victoria. Marketed as an upscale offering, the two-door Victoria touted a slanted windshield, larger doors for greater ease of entry, fold-forward front seats for rear access, and a fold-out rear seat allowing additional access to a rearward storage area that became known as the bustle - a reference to the figure-enhancing bustle worn by the fashion-conscious women of that era. This beautifully built 1931 Ford Victoria has retained its bustle out back and has been given considerable hustle up front with its professionally built, blown small-block Chevy engine. Unable to resist using the phrase, this is truly the first car we have obtained that offers legitimate hustle and bustle.

Built meticulously by one man over 10 years, this 1931 Ford Victoria street rod is a creation that genuinely pleases the eye. A 350ci Chevy engine powers her, bored .030 over and fitted with dished pistons, an appropriate performance camshaft, and twin Holley carburetors, all working to accommodate the 871 Weiand supercharger. Exhaust is handled by headers, performance mufflers, and pipes that exit just ahead of the rear wheels. This monstrous engines power is sent through a performance-built Turbo 350 transmission with a highly polished aluminum case, taken to the ground by a Ford 9-inch rear end with 3.50:1 Positraction gears and Centerline wheels wrapped in Hoosier 29x18.50x25 tires. A coil-over 4-link suspension supports the rear, while up front is a Fat Man independent suspension, with disc brakes front and rear, all mounted to a clean, powder-coated frame. The body is a solid Victoria that was originally found stored in a barn. It was completely refurbished by the owner/builder and fitted with fiberglass fenders all around. There is no rattle or squeak anywhere in this body, and the doors open and close perfectly. The stunning bright red base/clear paint has been applied to portions of the undercarriage as well, perfectly completing the overall appearance of this beautiful street rod. The interior is equally impressive, with two-tone gray fabric-covered bucket seats, rolled-and-pleated door and side panels, Autometer gauges, a custom steering wheel mounted on a tilt column, a Lokar floor-mounted shifter, and tasteful floor covering throughout. This beauty runs on pump gas and effortlessly drives down the highway at 70 mph. The cost of building a street rod of this caliber would easily exceed double what its being offered for here today. If owning a professionally built street rod is your passion, this hustle and bustle 31 Victoria is it. See for yourself.
