1931 Ford Model A Pickup For consignment, a 1931 Ford Model A pickup with the true miles being unknown as the odometer doesnt show a clear display. This one packs a 347ci stroker V8 and wears a not so subtle shade of green enhanced by a substantial raked stance and a bed! Exterior Eye popping Rally Green coats this truck which hunkers down over Enkei wheels and staggered size tires, poised to pounce at the next red light in a decidedly nose down posture. Ford could not have imagined such a vision in 31 when they were producing pickups used strictly for work in a country that was struggling through a depression. The green is clean all the way around, covering everything from the integrated visor to the wide running board to the stamped tailgate. In the bed, smooth wood alternates with stainless rails for a show worthy look while at the other end, the lack of engine covers expose an impressive power plant. Imperfections are few with some uneven paint on the edges and flaking plating on the wheels. Interior Suicide style doors wear gray vinyl panels is decent shape with some bumps, opening up to a bench seat with tweed inserts and low pile gray carpet that covers the wall behind, floor below, and ceiling above. A GT sport steering wheel on tilt column fronts a gray painted dash that houses a billet faceplate for the instrumentation in the center, a series of digital gauges that appear black and light up red. To the right is an AM/FM/Cassette player and on the floor, a billet handled shifter. Drivetrain Up front we have a 347ci stroker V8 with a 2-barrel carburetor, adorned with polished parts including valve covers and alternator, now running the 12 volt system. Behind it, a rebuilt C4 3-speed automatic transmission which routes power to the Ford 8 rear. Undercarriage Clean and dry conditions are found underneath where dual exhaust travel through glasspack style mufflers and dump near the rear axle. Brakes are configured as front disc and rear drum and suspension consists of a 4 bar with transverse leaf spring up front and ladder bars with coilovers in back. Drive-Ability This cozy little cabin is comfortable and simple, allowing us to focus on the task at hand, making sure the truck is functional. The 347 comes to life with a mighty roar and this green street rod takes to the test loop like a green winged teal to water. Good power underfoot, straight tracking, and a tossable size that makes handling fun. We note the odometer is illegible in the digital read out and the drivers door popper doesnt always work. Beyond that, all functions operate just as they should and were satisfied to put this one on the showroom floor. Model A street rods are not particularly uncommon, but the pickup versions dont come up for sale that often, and what a cool little diversion from the normal body style. This paint really pops too and the 347 is plenty satisfying and we can only imagine what a few more barrels on top would do. This is a slick, green ride and unlike porridge thats too hot or too cold, this ones just right.
