Classic Car Overview
This car was professionally rebuilt from 2000 - 2002 in Southern California for long range touring. It was built for Los Angeles auto collector, Lee Chase. He spent more than $20,000 on the restoration/rebuild. Larry Blair (The Tin Shed, Whittier, CA) was the project manager and handled all of the assembly issues. The original engine was fully rebuilt by Jay Steele (Whittier, CA). Steele counter-balanced the crankshaft, installed insert bearings, added a high-lift touring camshaft, full oil pressure lubrication and a Model B carburetor and manifold. The car has a pleasant (easy) V-8 clutch, a perfect 1939 Ford synchromesh (2nd and 3rd gears) transmission, a truly wonderful Volvo overdrive. It has a pressurized cooling system, a leak-less water pump and a modern 5 bladed fan. There is an updated 12V electrical system with alternator. It has cast iron brake drums, hydraulic shock absorbers, and a Ford F100 steering gear box for easier steering. The car has six Ford 16 wire wheels with stainless steel trim rings and Ford hubcaps. There are less than 1200 miles on the six matching 600-16 Lester tires. Today, this set-up could be duplicated for $30,000. Ask you Ford gear-head friends!
The entire history of the care is known from new. She was assembled in Detroit in December, 1930 and shipped by train to the Ford dealer in Fargo, ND. She was first sold in May 1931 to the owner who had the car until she died in 1978. The owner's son sold the car to a Los Angeles car collector who did a standard restoration in 1984 to1986. Lee Chase bought the car sometime in the 1990s. The original block serial number matches registration. Drilled and counter-balanced crankshaft, with full oil pressure; Double side mounted spare tires. Each folding front seat has modified base with moves the seat about 2 rearwards. This makes the care very convenient for tall drivers. Excellent tour car. Likes 55 mph in overdrive. Horn and turn signals currently not working.
