Classic Car Overview

1931 Chevrolet AE Independence 4 Door Sedan

For consignment, a 1931 Chevrolet AE Independence four door sedan showing 64,346 miles, but the true miles are unknown due to PA title exemption. This uncommon classic is going to need some TLC but presents a worthwhile model to consider. In our eight years of business, this is only the fourth Independence to grace our Hallowed Halls.

Exterior
From twenty feet, its not hard to recognize the regal nature of the car or to imagine it in fully restored condition; even with its current flaws which well cover, its one good looking 31! This one mixes Boulevard Maroon with Black and the color not only alternate layers, but interplay in the form of black side molding that surrounds the car and maroon window reveals against the dominant black cabin, all augmented with cream colored pinstriping. 19-inch wire wheels are black and the entire car is nicely contrasted by the wide white wall tires, a look that is not lost on the fender mounted spares, which are covered by white slip covers. Badges adorn the grated grille topped by an impressive eagle ornament. Closer looks will reveal peeling and cracking paint throughout, surface rust on uncovered areas, wear to the top of the spare covers, roof seams that will need attention, bubbling, chips, and general patina.

Interior
Brown mohair on the door panels presents in decent condition with some typical aging, and the rear doors open coach style. The column tufted bench up front has some wear along the side piping and the rear bench is in nice shape. Three spokes adorn the black steering wheel, all cracked at the hub, and it fronts a black and maroon painted dashboard with center instrument cluster and ignition port faced by an overlapping circle design while a clock resides to the right. Theres also a clock embedded in the rear view mirror. The rubberized coating on the floor shows some age and the rear occupants get carpeted mats.

Drivetrain
Driver conditions are found under the engine cover where a 194ci inline six cylinder resides, rated at 50 horsepower and fuel is delivered through a 1-barrel carburetor. A 3-speed manual transmission sends power to the rear axle and 4.10 gears. The car runs on a six volt system.

Undercarriage
A combination of some clean components and patina cover the underside along with some typical surface rust and fluid on the rear differential. Mechanical drum brakes are supplied to all four wheels and a single exhaust carries a stock style muffler and exits out back. Leaf spring suspension is utilized front and back. We note significant rot on door bottoms.

Drive-Ability
This car would only run on starting fluid so a test drive could not be accomplished.

This stately ride is in dire need of being saved! Although more than 600,000 were made in 1931, they are uncommon by todays standards. Heres one with some decent bones that would benefit from some shop time and a can of elbow grease!
