The 8-Litre bearing chassis number YR5096 was originally bodied by the French coachbuilder Kellner and delivered to George Ball in September 1931. In Clare Hays Bentley: The Vintage Years, it is noted as having been recovered from a scrap yard in 1948. At this point the car seems to have diverged, with its engine mounted in what appears to be a Bentley Works Service recommissioned frame, numbered RC5096 to suit, with this very sporting Vanden Plas-style fabric tourer bodywork, in the ownership of G D A Price of Prestbury. It was subsequently exported Stateside and remained there for some years, including ownership by the well-known enthusiasts Richard Stitt and Dick Burdick.
In this form the car has been regularly rallied and enjoyed since acquisition in 2000 by the owner and his family, often towing the period Eccles Jacobean caravan also offered in this sale. In 2009 the engine was rebuilt with a remanufactured crankcase, new connecting rods, Phoenix crank, Arias pistons, and other modifications for continued durable reliability; invoices for some 20 years of services are included within the file. Also in 2009, the owner recounted that the car had covered 75,000 miles in the previous decade, including eight runs in the Mille Miglia, as well as journeys in Argentina, South Africa, Turkey, and India. Undoubtedly this remains one of the most actively enjoyed of all 8-Litres and is ripe for further journeys with a new caretaker.
