Few American automakers embody the spirit of the Classic Era quite like Stutz. Its reputation was forged almost overnight at the 1911 Indianapolis 500, where a hastily assembled prototype finished an impressive 11th place, inspiring the enduring slogan, The Car That Made Good in a Day. From that moment onward, the Stutz name became synonymous with performance and durability.

By the late 1920s, under the leadership of Frederick Moscovics, Stutz had established itself among Americas foremost luxury-performance manufacturers. Central to this transformation was Moscovics sophisticated overhead-camshaft inline eight-cylinder. Featuring a chain-driven camshaft, crossflow cylinder head, dual ignition, and 10 main bearings, the 322-cubic-inch engine delivered remarkably smooth, effortless performance.

The 1931 MB Cabriolet Coupe offered here is among the most imposing examples of Stutzs celebrated engineering, built on the companys longest 145-inch-wheelbase chassis an exceptionally rare specification even when new, representing the very pinnacle of production. Reportedly sold new in Maryland, the Stutz was recognized by an early marque enthusiast and entered in the Stutz registry by the early 1960s. The consignor acquired it in 1989 and undertook a painstaking restoration to its current presentation. Finished in rich burgundy with contrasting black fenders and coachlines, it is handsomely equipped with chrome wire wheels, dual side-mounted spare wheels with mirrors, the distinctive Egyptian Sun God Ra radiator mascot, and a rear-mounted luggage trunk.

Following the restoration, completed in 1992, the car led an active life on the road, with the consignor immediately putting the Stutz to use at numerous Grand Stutz meets and events. It is accompanied by a fascinating trove of invoices and records dating to 1955, together with numerous photographs chronicling the restoration.
