Classic Car Overview
This early 1930 production vehicle is identified by its desirable channeled headlight bar and is believed to be one of approximately 600 Sedan Delivery Vans assembled that year. Unlike many commercial vehicles that were worked hard and later reconstructed from multiple donor vehicles, this example is an authentic survivor that retained its original identity throughout its life before receiving a meticulous frame-off restoration.
Originally serving as a plumbers truck in the Bronx until 1952, the Ford was later acquired by Pisacane-Midtown Fish Market of Manhattan with plans for promotional use. Although that project was never completed, the vehicle remained remarkably complete before being discovered in 2009 and transported to Maine for a comprehensive restoration.
The restoration included a complete rebuild of the 201ci inline four-cylinder engine, machined .060-inch over, along with the clutch, three-speed manual transmission, and rear axle by Portland Automotive Machine in Gorham, Maine. A high-compression cylinder head and Model B carburetor provide a modest performance improvement over the factory-rated 40 horsepower. The original Waltham speedometer was professionally restored while retaining the vehicles original mileage history, showing approximately 95,000 miles today.
The body received new wood framing and was refinished in correct Ford colorsKewanee Green, Elkpoint Green, and Apple Greenby Kustom Auto Paint of Windsor, Maine. Hand-painted pinstriping and period-correct Lipman Poultry Company graphics were completed by renowned Maine sign painter Micky Liimatta, while the Allegheny Steel cowl was restored and polished by D&S Chrome. The radiator and fuel tank were professionally restored by Lewiston Radiator Works.
Exceptional attention was given to authenticity throughout the restoration. Features include Ford-etched safety glass, the scarce original T-style rear door handle, original steering wheel, gearshift and emergency brake handle, correct red fan belt and striped radiator hoses, original Ford-script Bakelite electrical components, original rear cargo floor with stamped steel skid strips, hidden under-seat toolbox, correct Apple Green wheels with metal valve stems, and the highly desirable F.M. Brand Awoogah horn.
Rarely does a genuine, correctly restored Model A Sedan Delivery become available. Combining exceptional originality, fascinating commercial history, and an award-worthy restoration, this Ford represents an outstanding opportunity for collectors seeking one of the most distinctive commercial vehicles of the Model A era.
