Classic Cars: Know Where to Look for Rust Before Buying

If you're thinking about buying a classic car, you should know where to look for rust and how extensive the repair might be.

Classic Car Overview

My Dad bought this car in 1947 while in college. I drove the car to high school & college.  It's been in the family for 70+ years and I don't have the time to give it the TLC that it needs.  So it needs a new home.  You will be the 4th owner of this vehicle.

The transmission and rear end were rebuilt in the mid-60's.  The motor was  rebuilt in the late 60's.  The car has  been driven approximately 20,000 miles since that time.  The body was  removed from the frame and new weatherstripping was installed between the frame and  body as well as between the body and the fenders.  The car has sealed-beam headlights but still has the original 6-volt positive electrical system with an upgraded generator.  I added turn signals and an AM radio.  I was also fortunate in 1967 to locate an ORIGINAL Model A Oogah Horn.  I also reversed the trunk lid to install a Rumble Seat in the mid-60's.

This is a complete car.  It hasn't been started in a while as Dad tried to do the last tune up and he wasn't able to get the timing set properly.  But the car will run and did run fine prior to Dad's attempt at being an auto mechanic.  It will  need new points, plugs, rotor and probably a distributor cap to get it started.  The plugs are set at .32, the points at .16 and I have the crank to set the timing.

It's been a while since the car was painted, so it will need paint.  And it still has the original mechanical brakes.

If you have any questions about the car, please feel free to email or call me.
