One of the most admired pre-war classics ever built, this top-of-the-line Auburn Speedster has lived a cherished life within the George Glaze Collection and is well known within ACD Club circles. A longtime supporter of the annual Auburn Auction & Show, ACD Club, and ACDA Museum, Mr. Glaze is a familiar face in the Collector Car Capital of the World Auburn, Indiana. His first automobile would be a Hupmobile, but his car collecting endeavors would not fully take off till the 1990s, when he began attending the annual Auburn Auction and ACD Festival. It was at this same time that one of his professional business relationships would turn into a life-long friendship through a common love of cars. That friendship would be with Truett Cathy, the founder of Chick-fil-A. George and Truett began going to car shows and the Auburn Auction together on a regularly basis, with George acting as Truetts motorcar adviser helping Truett decide and purchase automobiles from the Kruse Auctions for Chick-fil-As corporate headquarters.
While having 25 cars in his personal collection at one point, Mr. Glaze had a good eye for automobiles and wanted a car that reflected his love for the city of Auburn, Indiana. He would welcome this 1930 Auburn 8-125 Speedster, the perfect automobile to represent the city, into his collection in August of 2006 when he acquired it from the Auburn, Cord, Duesenberg Automobile charity gala. The recipient of a complete restoration, this Speedster is draped in elegant colors and features various period items such as dual side mounted spares topped with side view mirrors, a Pilot Ray driving light, dual cowl lights, a raked front windshield, chrome wire wheels and lavish red interior upholstery. Under the hood lies, the flagship 125 horsepower Lycoming straight eight engine, which is sought after by collectors and enthusiasts thanks to its wonderful driving qualities and top-of-the-line engine spec.
Taking this example to the annual ACD Festival on multiple occasions, this Speedster partook on the annual Hoosier Tour, most notably in 2018, which was The Year of the Speedster and 40 Speedster showed up. During one of the trips, Mr. Glaze submitted his Speedster to be certified by the Club, after great discussions, the Club determined this Auburn to meet standards, but the decision was made to not certify it as the frame ID plate had been removed during restoration.
Under Mr. Glazes ownership for the last 20-years, this Speedster has been greatly admired and at shows, acquiring an AACA National First prize award and garnering numerous other awards at shows such as the Keels & Wheels Concours dElegance and the 2017 Salon dElegance at the Atlanta Motor Speedway. Another cool appearance was this Speedster was the poster car for the Georgia Aquarium Oceans & Autos exhibit, a display board accompanies this motorcar.
Cherished in the well-known George Glaze Collection for the last 20-years, this lovely and desirable flagship 1930 Auburn Speedster would be a further welcomed addition to future ACD Club gatherings, driving tours, noted shows, or simply admired in your collection.
