Classic Car Overview
The Ford Model A was Henry Fords answer to a market that had moved on from the Model T, and the response was immediate. When Ford unveiled it to the public in December 1927, an estimated 10 million people showed up to see it in the first week, with crowds so large that cities had to send police to manage the traffic around dealerships. By 1929, Ford was building over 9,000 examples per day, making it the highest production year in the Model As entire run. This one has been taken apart and put back together the right way, finished in green from bumper to bumper, and it is as sharp a Model A as you will come across.
Under the hood is the 3.3 liter inline four backed by a three speed manual transmission. The engine is simple, honest, and has been running variations of this basic design since before most of the roads it drives on existed. The green starter is a clean detail that carries the color theme all the way into the engine bay, and the car runs and drives exactly the way a fully restored example should.
Inside, the grey cloth interior is tidy and well done. A green dash with a chrome tachometer cluster, black steering wheel, black shifter, and chrome hand brake give the cockpit a finished, period-correct look with just the right amount of polish. The green front license plate is a fun touch that fits the overall theme without going overboard.
The Model A was the first Ford ever built with conventional driver controls, meaning the clutch, brake, and accelerator pedals arranged in the same order every car still uses today. Before the Model A, Fords controls were different enough from everything else on the road that drivers had to relearn how to operate one. This car changed that, and in doing so helped set the standard for every automobile that followed.
Externally the chrome front and rear bumpers, blend fender and rail accents, green wheels, silver goose hood sculpture, and rear luggage box with straps and locks make this one of the most complete and thoughtfully presented Model As you will find. A photo book documenting the full build process comes with the car, which is an increasingly rare thing to have and tells the story of the restoration from start to finish.
