Classic Car Overview

1929 Ford Model A Pickup For consignment, a 1929 Ford Model A pickup with a title verified 3,810 actual miles. This all original steel truck was restored in 1986 and is one of 77,000 closed cab variants built in 1929. Exterior A stunning presentation decked out in all black paint with bright red 21-inch wire wheels including a spare on the front fender that not only serves as important backup, but is also an attractive design element with a Ford branded cover. Its standard Model A up front with headlights with black buckets on a light bar that crosses the mesh grille with a beautiful chrome surround and radiator cap. A visor hovers over the vertical windshield and the entire cabin is one right angle after another with a perfectly flat and vertical rear wall with small window that overlooks the wood planks in the bed showing some nice patina between the black bedrails and per our consignor, is the original 1929 wood. The textured rubber roof is in great condition as is most of the paint with the exceptions being some scratches, chipping paint, and area of rougher surfaces under the paint. Interior Long before they thought about incorporating cupholders and courtesy lights, the inner doors were simple vinyl panels with a window crank and thats what we have here in excellent condition. The material and quality make their way onto the bench seat, also in black, and the simplicity of cars 100 years ago is made evident by the four spoke steering wheel, thin column, black painted dash, and central instrument cluster in a polished faceplate. A fitted rubber mat covers the floor from which the shifter and hand brake rise, along with oblong pedals for the driver. A clean headliner and vinyl coated rear wall complete the immaculate interior. Drivetrain Looking fresh and original is the 201ci inline four behind the cover, with 40 horsepower and a 1-barrel carburetor, mated to a 3-speed manual that routes power to the rear axle with 3.78 gears. All of this was included in the 1986 restoration. Undercarriage Very nice and clean underneath with only a drop or two of oil but hardly a deal breaker. Transverse leaf springs occupy the front and back and so do mechanical drum brakes, on all four wheels. A single exhaust includes a stock style muffler and the system terminates under the truck before the rear axle. Drive-Ability Our crack staff gets these old girls started and we make our way around the test loop just as they might have nearly 100 years ago. Its not fast, but it also doesnt leave piles in the road after a meal of hay. It operates nicely and all functions with the exception of the brake light are working. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase. This closed cab version of the Model A truck is a very nice example and its well sorted and buttoned up as they say, presenting in a dramatic black and red combination. Wed hate to see it locked up in a museum, but it could certainly serve as a fine representative of a model you just dont see every day. However it gets seen by the adoring public will be enlightening to those who might not know how simple things were 100 years ago.
