Classic Cars: Know Where to Look for Rust Before Buying

If you're thinking about buying a classic car, you should know where to look for rust and how extensive the repair might be.

Classic Car Overview

1929 Ford Model A Tudor Sedan The Tudor Sedan body style was one of the first Model A body styles. In fact, the mysterious new Ford seen on the streets of Detroit in the fall of 1927 was indeed the new Model A Tudor Sedan. The most popular of all Model A body styles, the Standard Tudor was available in all four Model A years, with well over 1.25 million of them being built between 1927 and 1931. This Ford Tudor Model A Sedan has many modifications, upgrades and would be considered under the category of vintage street rod. In 1956 it received a complete body redo, interior redo, as well as engine and suspension upgrade. This car starts immediately and drives like a dream. Passed down from man to man who was within the original group of buddies, it is now to the final remaining buddy, and it is definitely Classic Auto Malls gain! Exterior Dressed in what could only be described as Olive but not drab, this shiny straight paneled hot rod from the mid-fifties, still holds its own...a testament to the original quality of build that these boys undertook over 60 years ago. Chromed accents such as a horn (chrome horn literally!) bumpers, door handles, grille, headlight bezels are all in good condition. A metal with brass edged tool box is attached to the rear of this car, now empty, but inevitably used to hold a myriad of tools to squeeze out that extra little bit of horsepower prior to the arms dropping. Straw painted wire spoked 16 wheels are all around and have larger than original width tires which makes this car handle so beautifully without any power steering. A chromed flying goose hood ornament is seen sitting proudly on the radiator. Interior Red leather primitive but effective buckets up front, and a rear bench for drive in movie nights stretches across the rear. A machined panel in the center of the dash houses elements from an early Chrysler Imperial dash. Fronting the dash is a steering wheel that appears to have been cut from 1 solid piece of wood, according to the grain. Headliner is black fiberboard, and door panels are the red leather. Drivetrain Herse where the boys had some fun...a Ford Model B 4-cylinder engine, with a Winfield high compression head, a 6-volt Mallory ignition system, fed by an electric fuel pump, and topped with a rarely seen Model B Ford air cleaner. Strapped on back, is a later Ford V8 Transmission (non-synchromesh). Undercarriage Clean and seeing only surface rust. Brakes have been upgraded to hydraulic style, and are silicon coated. This car remains a quality build by some kids who wanted a hot rod. Still drives beautifully today, and can go up to 65MPH, and you do not feel like you are going to lose your life doing so. Cruising speed of 40-45MPH and shes barely breathing. Consigner notes and warns that the rear windows are plate glass and should be the first thing the new buyer attends too.
