Classic Car Overview
1929 Ford Model A $100,000
1929 FORD ROADSTER
This 1929 Ford Roadster is an original Henry Ford Body and has been tastefully customized by many hands at different shops over many years. The car started at Hot Rods by Boyd for the original owner Vern Luce and has worked on not only by Boyd but by Marcel DeLay, Covington Custom, and Kindig-it Design.
The Roadster features a Boyd Coddington chassis with Pro Ride independent front and rear suspension that is fully polished, Wilwood disc brakes and custom one-off Boyd Coddington Wheels. The drive train is an all aluminum Paul Phaff Racing 406 CID small block Chevy with Brodex cylinder heads and is topped off with 4 qty 48mm IDF Weber Carbs and is backed with a Richmond 5 speed transmission. Every detail of the engine is entirely polished including the one-off air cleaners and valve covers built by Hot Rods by Boyd. Headers are HPC coated and flow through the fully polished stainless exhaust.
Marcel DeLay massaged the body and the team there did the 2” chop, narrowing of the grill and built the custom hood and sides with a bit of a stretch to the nose to give it a clean and smooth look. The rear of the car also took new shape by extending and continuing the reveal lines. A custom roll pan was also built to finish out the back of the car as well as the custom taillight design cut in to continue the 45-degree heavy machined look matching the theme of this Bitchin’ Ride.
Originally painted and assembled by Covington Customs the car was drivable but never finished. After many years and another owner, Kindig-it Design purchased the car with respects to the way we thought Boyd would have finished it.
After a little fine tuning on the drive train, we straightened out a few body panels and applied a fresh coat of “Boyd’s Red” and polished it to perfection. Kindig-it designed the interior and had it pro-built by JS Custom Interiors to have the feel of the rest of the build using Ferrari Saddle leather and velour carpet. The gauges are VDO and were installed in a custom billet panel by Boyd’s to match the rest of the custom billet pieces around the car.
This roadster was featured on Velocity Channel’s “Bitchin’ Rides” Season 3 Episode 8 “It’s like 1929 in here.” 2016
