Delivered in June 1928 to the first owner Mr Edmund Daniels, chassis number MD2475 was configured as a black Weymann saloon with a red leather interior by Albany Carriage Company Ltd of St Albans. As noted by Bentley historian Dr Clare Hay in the book Bentley The Vintage Years, the 6 -litre Tourer is thought to have appeared in the Albany Weymann advertisement by Henlys Ltd on 23 November 1928. Around two years later, the Bentley was sold to the next owner, Mr Patrick Thomas Beasley. The registration plate GU 528 was assigned in March 1929 and is still worn by the car today.
The next noted owner was Mr W H Williamson in 1934; the following year, this 6 -litre Tourer was acquired by Mr R B H Bibby. By 1939, the car was owned by a Mr K Neve but disappeared during World War II, such was the fate of many significant vintage automobiles of the time. Resurfacing in the 1960s, the Bentley was then cared for by Mr P R Daniel and it is noted at that point to have been equipped with a shooting brake body. By 1969, this Bentley 6 -Litre was owned by Mr M D Geer.
While the later history of this vintage Bentley is not known, at a later date the shooting brake body was removed, and the car was fitted with a handsome four-seater touring body in the Vanden Plas style by James E Pearce of Wisborough Green, England. The new body was painted in a handsome shade of sea blue and complemented by a dark blue leather interior.
At the turn of the 21st Century, chassis number MD2475 was owned in France and later Holland before being sold back to the United Kingdom in 2015, when the car was acquired by the previous owner. At this time, the installed crankcase was known to have originated from another 6 -Litre, while the crankcase that was first installed in this Bentley (numbered MD2460 ) was by this point in another car. However, the previous owner traced the correct crankcase and reunited it with the Bentley in 2015. After the motorcar was acquired by the consigning owner in 2017, they chose to send the matching-numbers crankcase to the vintage Bentley specialist NDR Ltd in for a full rebuild. This was completed in September while in October 2025 the rebuilt engine was installed in this car. Please note following the engine rebuild and install, this vehicle will require a clutch assembly, fuel pipes, control linkage, and other miscellaneous parts. Please speak to an RM Sothebys representative for further information.
Upon inspection it has been confirmed that this Bentley retains its matching-numbers chassis, engine, steering box, and differential. As one of 91 examples built in 1928, this 6 -Litre Bentley is a wonderful offering with its charming blue colour scheme, open tourer body, and desirable matching-numbers engine. To view this car and others currently consigned to this auction, please visit the RM website at rmsothebys.com/auctions/lf25/.
