A delightful example of the iconic 3-Litre Bentley, this desirable original Speed Model was bodied by Vanden Plas with its classic fabric-panelled four-seat tourer body. The car was delivered to original owner Clive O B Beale in June 1924 and remained in his ownership until 1939; it was specified with a windscreen adjusted to suit his height, among other special features. Subsequent owners are recorded in Dr Clare Hays Bentley: The Vintage Years as C E K Nutt in 1939, R L Macpherson Grant in 1947, Major E Hedley in 1948, Clive C Jones in 1957, and Simon J L Forsey later that year.
A handwritten document on file notes that former owner Richard Ford acquired it in 1981 and mechanically rebuilt it, and from 1984 covered over 38,000 miles in the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Belgium, Holland, Luxembourg, Switzerland, and the United States. MoT certificates indicate that it remained in good use with Mr Ford until 2005. It retains its original bodywork and matching-numbers chassis, engine, and gearbox, while having continued to enjoy tours and rallies in current ownership, as well as featured in the January 2018 issue of British Classics.
