Nash Motor Company vehicles accounted for barely more than 1.5 percent of all U.S. auto production in 1923, with total output that year of 41,652 units. This 1923 Nash Four Series 40 Sport Touring is largely original except for the paint. POWERTRAIN The Series 40 was powered by Nashs 179-cu.in. OHV inline-four. With a compression ratio of 3.8:1, the engine received its fuel mixture via a single Schebler carburetor and was rated by the manufacturer at 36.75 horsepower when new. The three-speed manual transmission requires double clutching when shifting, and there are no powertrain leaks. The engine bay is stock and generally clean. EXTERIOR The canvas phaeton top fits well and is clean. The Nash has a rear rack and trunk that arenin good overall condition, and the bodywork shows no scuffs or other damage. The nickel trim is in good shape. The Nash is equipped with a spotlight, cowl lamps, and a Moto-Meter. The running boards are straight, with dual step plates per side. The red disc wheels, including the passengers side mount, have contrasting pinstripes. No scratches to the windshield glass. All lighting is functional. The underside is very clean, with minimal surface corrosion. INTERIOR The black leather upholstery has age cracks. A couple tears are on the top of the front seat. Rubber flooring is in good overall condition. The painted steel dashboard has full trim, with no missing components. There is no audio system, heater, or air conditioning. .
