Offered for sale is this exceptional 1922 Winton Model 40 Touring Car, chassis number 37495, an outstanding example of one of Americas most prestigious early luxury automobiles.

Founded in 1897 by automotive pioneer Alexander Winton, the Winton Motor Carriage Company earned its reputation as Americas first manufacturer to successfully market a standard gasoline-powered automobile. Known for exceptional engineering, reliability, and craftsmanship, Winton automobiles were among the finest luxury cars of their era. However, like many premium manufacturers, the company struggled to compete with the rise of inexpensive mass-produced automobiles introduced by Henry Ford. Production dwindled to just 690 vehicles in 1922 before the company ceased automobile manufacturing in 1924 to focus on diesel engine production.

This remarkable Model 40 is an exceptionally original survivor, retaining its original aluminum coachwork along with its matching original engine, transmission, chassis, and sheet metal. The car has remained largely untouched throughout its life, receiving only a repaint during the 1950s while preserving its authentic character and historic integrity.

Acquired by a private museum in the early 1960s, the Winton remained in long-term museum ownership for more than six decades. In early 2026, it was carefully removed from the collection and underwent a comprehensive mechanical rehabilitation by marque specialists to prepare it for reliable operation while preserving its originality.

Configured as a five-passenger touring car, this rare Model 40 is equipped with the desirable four-speed manual transmission, making it an uncommon and highly sought-after example. It is fully sorted and ready for touring events, concours exhibitions, or preservation-class judging.
