The Republic Motor Truck Company was a manufacturer of commercial trucks from 1913 - 1929, in Alma, Michigan. The company was originally founded by Frank Ruggles as the Alma Manufacturing Company which was producing trucks in early 1913 for the Maxwell Motor Company under its Hercules vehicle name. During later part of 1913 Ruggles decided to begin producing his own vehicles under the Alma Motor Company label, then soon it became the Republic Motor Truck Company. The Hercules vehicle also had its name changed to the Republic. By 1918, it was recognized as the largest exclusive truck manufacturer in the world, and the maker of one out of every nine trucks on the roads in the United States.
